How did you introduce milk?

My DD will be turning one next week and I am wondering how I am suppose to introduce milk/get rid of formula? Do I mix them together to get her used to the taste? I have no clue! Do I warm up the milk or give it to her straight out of the fridge? Help! Chat Icon

Re: How did you introduce milk?

We just went cold turkey, but I would warm it up at first for DS.

Thanks for asking this question because I'm in the same boat with DS turning one in 3 weeks...all my ped said was that I don't have to ween DS I could go straight to milk.

Re: How did you introduce milk?

tried cold turkey but DS wouldn't drink it.
So, fo a few days I mixed 3/4 formula with 1/4 milk, then 1/2 formula 1/2 milk for a few days, then 3/4 milk 1/4 formula, and after a week he was on milk alone.

Re: How did you introduce milk?

I started it right after my DS's one year old doctor appointment. We did it cold turkey and did not warm the milk. I stopped warming his formula when he was 3 or 4 months so it did not bother him to drink it cold.

Re: How did you introduce milk?

We tried cold turkey and it didn't work, so I mixed half and half and slowly increased the milk and decreased the formula.

that's how we did it. Every time I switched DD - whether it was from one formula to another or from formula to milk I did it this way. It worked well for us.

Re: How did you introduce milk?

I started with switching out one bottle of formula for 1 cup of milk at a time. By the time we got to three I just moved him entirely to milk - the whole process took like 4 days.

And I'll share with you the best piece of advice my ped has given me. Do NOT put the milk in a bottle - go to a cup when you move to milk. I had zero transition issues with DS with the bottle b/c I followed this advice.

Re: How did you introduce milk?

I started at 11 months with DS. i gave him one bottle of milk per day (but i put half formula in it) then gradually increased it. Warm it up for your DD though dont give it to her cold. I gave it to DS at night before bed.
