My friend is renting a brand new apt in Kings Park. Its a basement but with windows and a full door with glass. Did I mention that its brand new!! FM me for details.

My husband is friends with the landlord. The landlord asked my husband to do some work on the house. So, my husband started asking questions about rent & everything. Sure enough the landlord asked if we wanted to take the place. Worked out great since I got to choose almist everthing that went into here.

i recommend all of them; newspaper, craigslist, pennysaver, and if all else fails then a broker..
(but i have noticed the nice aots in a private home are usually through a broker)
I'm finding that as well...but not too happy about spending 1 month's rent on a broker's fee.
I was not either, but after having a NIGHTMARE of a landlord who LIED to us about the apartment being legal & in turn being EVICTED with little to no notice, I would only go through a broker just to avoid this mess.
What area are you looking? If we did not buy we were going to rent in an Avalon community in Melville.
We had a broker and similar stuff happened to us with our last house....the broker even gave our psychotic landlord DH's SSN when she wasn't supposed to.
We found a ton on craiglist, and we only moved in May and we wanted a house, a yard and we have a dog (aka renter's leprosy ) and we found all that

This is so frustrating.
Isn't it shocking what some people consider an apt.!??! 
My advice... be persistant. If you are really into a place and they're not calling you, CALL THEM!
With my apt., the second I walked into it I fell in love but there were other people there looking as well... I wouldn't leave until I was the last one there... got the apt.!!
PS... maybe my landlords are strange, but while I was checking out the apt. the very first time, his wife ran outside and took a peek inside my car to see how clean it was... she said later that was how they cuold tell how a tenant would keep the apt.

I also wanted to add the Pernnysaver comes out on Tuesdays-you can go to the ahrehouse and get for the areas you are interested in. It is in Bethpage?Syosset area--I'm sure you can call and get exact directions

it was a piece of crumpled looseleaf paper taped to the unmarked door on our building with 'apt for rent' and our landlords # scribbled on it.....
we love our building!
