How did you decide on a name?

We are pretty positive we are having a Chat Icon from my ultrascreen visit but should hopefully find out on the 1st.

In any event DH is cool with basically any girl name. But EVERY boy name I suggest he HATES.

He is part Italian so every name he is suggesting sounds like the kid would've come straight off the boat. I don't think we will ever come to an agreement in time!!!

Re: How did you decide on a name?

We went through the books and narrowed it down to 3 of each sex.

We didn't know what we were having until d day.

We chose Amelia Grace b/c we both loved that name.

Re: How did you decide on a name?

we agreed on the name pretty quickly - he picked out a baby name book and within the first 5 minutes of looking thru it a name just popped out at us.

the middle name was a little harder b/c we wanted to use a particular letter, but still not too bad.

i think what really helped us was that as soon as we found out it was a boy i decided i really wanted to name him after our paternal grandfathers who are both deceased... so we had those initials to work with and it helped us narrow down our choices.

we did this too.... we put in about 6 girls names and Kayla came out 5 times in a row. I picked 2 times and Kayla came out and then DH picked 3 times in a row and Kayla came out each time. So we figured we couldn't go with anything else.

Re: How did you decide on a name?

We first talked about baby names before we were even married while on a long drive away for the weekend. We just started saying baby names and yelled "VETO" if we hated the name said out loud. When we got to the name we chose, we just knew it would be the name. Sounds so silly, but it's true.

For the middle name, we chose a family name. That made things much easier.

Re: How did you decide on a name?

Since we are both Jewish, we knew we would name for deceased relatives in Hebrew. Many times, people use the initials of the deceased to guide them in a name choice. It is NOT a requirement. That is a VERY common misconception and NOT Jewish law.

We had planned to name the child for my father and DH's grandfather REGARDLESS of gender in Hebrew. When we found out we were having a girl, we found female equivalents in Hebrew to the Hebrew names of those two men. Then we TRIED to match initials to the English names of the same people, but did not like any names with those letters so we chose English names we liked.

Then sadly my mother passed away 3 months ago and since I am the only one of her children having any more children, we decided to give our daughter a SECOND Hebrew middle name to honor her. Should we not have a second child, Mom wouldn't get a name til my nieces and nephews have children which may not be for another 20 years.

The English first and middle names we chose are based in the Old Testament and both have a great deal of meaning to us. They were not chosen based on popularity, but in our faith. We each made a list of names from the Old Testament that we liked, compared the lists, knocked off all that we didn't like from each other's list and chose from what was left.

So if anyone is REALLY dying to know, break out your Pentateuch, make a list and try to guess. DH and I are tight lipped - havent told a soul.

Re: How did you decide on a name?

Dylan was my favorite name pretty early on. DH did not want to talk names until the pregnancy was further along. I suggested several, including Dylan. He hated the other names. It was actually easy because we had the same favorite. I admit, I originally came to like the name in the 90210 days.

I went to college with a weird guy named Dillon (different spelling) but I still liked his name. That was where I first heard it.

Re: How did you decide on a name?

All of the boy names we liked either were names of his brothers or close male friends.Chat Icon In Italian tradition the 2nd boy (he already has a son) is supposed to be named after the mothers father but we don't like Robert, so we skipped and are naming him after my DH. I'm not 100% thrilled, but it will work and it means something to DH

Re: How did you decide on a name?

we tried a variety of names but none clicked with me-dh was pretty easy going.. his name is raymond and he wanted at least one name that started with an R..

we started off with if its' a boy name it after him, a girl name her after me..

then it was a girl, and i think he got a little jealous.. (never admitted it but all of a sudden it became an issue to him for a child to not have their own identity and be named after a parent..yeah okay..)

so then we picked some other names, and i finally realized that none of them really worked for me because I had no connection to them. I"m not a pull a name out of a hat/book kind of person. I need the name to have real significance and mean something.. my dad passed away in 2005 and his name is kenneth, so i began looking for names that would memorialize him.. didn't like kenya or kenyatta, so I came up with Kennedy!

The middle name was pretty easy, both dh and I have a grandma Rose, and there was his R name..

The second middle name is my last name to once again align her with her maternal legacy..

and then his last name to seal the deal..

So it's Kennedy Rose Clay D*

Seriously. Chat Icon We decided to revisit the name issue in a month. We're closer to agreeing on a girl's name, but DH has bascially rejected my favorite names. Chat Icon He doesn't really provide any suggestions either. We have nothing for a boy's name.

We actually sat in Barnes & Noble one day and went through a bunch of baby name books. I had specific letters in mind and we couldn't find anything we both liked. I think I may have both of us write down 5 or 10 names we like and then we can start going through them. I'm really at a loss though. Good luck!

My family traditionally does this with both the legal and Hebrew names, but we may just do the Hebrew names b/c we're having such a hard time agreeing on anything. I had wanted to use "E" and "T" after my great-grandparents, but DH rejects all of my suggestions. There are other family members who have been named after those great-grandparents, but I could see at least one of my grandparents getting upset if I don't name DC after a relative.

Re: How did you decide on a name?

For now, one if our names is originally from a book that I read. I finally got my DH on board with that one.

Our second name we found on a wine list and it is unusual without being weird, we think.

We decided not to discuss them for a while.
