How accurate are ovulation tests?
This is my first time trying them and it's $$$ to buy them so I'm wondering how well they work.

Re: How accurate are ovulation tests?
they worked for me - but maybe if you're worried - you can temp and do the tests - that would be a GREAT way to almost guarantee knowing you are o'ing...(but nothing is 100% really)...
the price is why i never used digitals - i always used the Target Brand line tests...still money - but less than digitals - and you can SEE when to expect the line to be darker - because you start out with NO line - then the line is there - but light....then it's darker and then darkest...i always liked knowing when it was getting close...

Re: How accurate are ovulation tests?
depending if you have regular cycles they should be 99% accurate.. they have worked for me every time i used them..
i agree, they are not cheap.. however, i feel the CBE digitals are the most easiest ones!!

I agree with the CBE digitals. I was using the ones with the lines and it got very frustrating for me.
I like being able to see a smile or just a circle.
You can try to find them on eBay for less than the stores but if you want to get them from a store I suggest Target -- they're the cheapest I've found.

Re: How accurate are ovulation tests?
I just started yesterday with CBE digitals. Hoping they work.
I read the cheaper boxes, it said one line had to be darker than the other. They showed a sample of the different lines on the box, they both looked the same color purple to me . So I forked over the $30 for the .

Re: How accurate are ovulation tests?
I ordered the cheapee sticks online. For me it was really to confirm that I knew my body as well as I thought I did, but this was the 2nd month and they worked perfectly this month and last. You don't have to spend a lot of money....oh and let me add I had no trouble reading/interpreting them.

Re: How accurate are ovulation tests?
i am in the minority here - i didn't like them. used them when ttc #1 and found that different tests gave me different results (using the same urine sample at the same time).
okay... i think i am REALLY in the minority here, but here goes...
overall i think OPKs are a waste of money. if you want to use them for a couple months to confirm roughly the time period that you are ovulating, they are useful for that.
once you have a rough sense of ovulation time, there is no need to keep using them.
if you BD every other day from a week before ovulation time to a week after ovulation time, there is no way you can miss the window of opportunity.
in my opinion, this method takes a lot less thinking and a LOT less money!
once i did it this way last time around i conceived, after 4 previous months of obsessing about OPKs, temps, and BDing plans. this time around i did it this way right off and conceived in our first month trying.
obviously this is just my opinion and my experience, so take it for what it's worth... good luck!

i agree with you with some points you mentioned..
about using them for a couple months even to see if you are Oing.. and around the same times.. i personally wouldnt use them EVERY month TTC.. cause that is just way to expensive.. and i was just told by my doctor to just BD every other day also.. that i cant miss the day of O..
but i do think they are worth it to use for a month or 2.. maybe even 3 months.. just to make sure you ARE getting the positive.. and no red flags are being raised!
but overall i do tend to agree

I got them at target. I think they are the cheapest for HPT and OPK kits. I got an EPT 2 PACK for $12 + I had a $4 coupon. I was so excited about that.

Re: How accurate are ovulation tests?
There are situations where OPKS will not work. For many women with PCOS they are a total waste as PCOS can cause false positives on the test.

Re: How accurate are ovulation tests?
They are accurate in predicting ovulation, well LH surge. So they will definitly predict the surge...whether or not you actually are ovulating can only be told by a sonogram, blood work etc. But if you have a pretty normal cycle, then they are gonna be pretty accurrate for you.
