House hunting during the summer
anyone doing this or DO this in the past?
it's so hard to get motivated when I just want to waste my weekends sitting at the pool with a mojito in hand...
but if mortgage rates DO in fact fall slightly in August, I want to be ready and have something to pounce on...
what say you all about this?

The year we bought our house, we house hunted late late spring into the summer.
We had no choice though

We scored our house in August of last year (closed in October). We spent a lot of time during the summer looking -- and found it great. Less people and in our case, our seller was getting antsy.
The only caveat is that we were looking only in our town, so it wasn't that hard for us to take 5-10 mins. to look at a house.

we looked and found our house in the summer. we closed the beginning of September
Alot of people that want to move, with kids, want to do it during the summer so the kids can start school in september.

Yep, that's what we (as current sellers) were told as well. The summer's a great time to buy a house!

when we bought started looking right after memorial day weekend, and we closed in august on the house.
The apartment we were living in, the lease was up in august, so it just made sense

We've been seriously house hunting since last spring. REA swore more houses would be put on the market in the summer, but I feel like people are holding on to sell higher, because I get emails of the new listings weekly and there isn't much new.  I think we've seen everything in our range in the towns we've chosen.
It's not discipline for us, because we are anxious to move, but it's just that it feels like there is nothing great out there.

we started looking last summer (August) and i actually enjoyed going to open houses. i was excited to get into the swing of things and hopefully find a house to buy. i had been waiting years to do it. we found our house in March (but we took a break during the holidays to enjoy ourselves).

I put an offer on my co-op in August. I think I started looking in June. I had to be out of my rental by November, so I had no choice, and summer is actually easier for me, because I get out early on Friday afternoons, so it was easier to call realtors when I got home & set up weekend appointments.
