House Hunters...who's looking

Figure we have a lot of people in the buying process would be fun to hear where everyone is looking, what they have seen, how its going etc.

We are looking in RVC and Garden City
So far nothing good in our price range in GC. We have seen a few houses in RVC

I saw one on Sherman we liked but the bedrooms are small Chat Icon

We say one on Kennedy and OMG it needed to be gutted almost completely. Amazes me how a house could need that much work and still be on the market in the low $500ks

We are looking too. We are primarily looking in Babylon or West Islip. I love Garden City and RVC. I have a lot of family from there. The houses are beautiful but a lot of them are old so the rooms are definitely smaller than newer homes. You absolutely pay for the zip code in those towns but they are both great places to live. Good luck in your search!

Re: House Hunters...who's looking

My DH is a cop in RVC and he said out of the streets, Sherman is better- not as busy and nicer neighborhood. He knows RVC up and down so any questions at all or any streets/houses you're looking at. Let me know!

Re: House Hunters...who's looking

:Raises Hand:

We're looking mostly in Wantagh, Bellmore, N. Bellmore and MAssapequa...possibly in Merrick and N. Merrick as well but looking to stay within that general area.

We're still saving our DP and we just sat with a Mortgage Broker to get a general idea of what we need to do to prepare ourselves (i.e. repairs to credit, paying off loans, how much we need, etc.)

Seems we're in pretty good shape but I'd just like to have more $$ under our belt so we don't walk in needing a big seller's concession KWIM?

Its tough...I feel like we have champagne taste and Schlitz pockets Chat Icon

Love that house on Sherman and it looks like a great deal! I was trying to convince my friend to go see it. Unfortunately we found all the bedrooms small when we were looking (we bought in RVC) because they're all old houses.

Lisa the selling process is a nightmare. I am at the point where I just want to give our house away!

The one on Sherman is soooo pretty. And it started at $649 so they have dropped the price considerably. And the downstairs is nice (although no den) but we have 3 kids so I need the middle bedroom to be able to house my 2 boys. And even the Master in this house would have been tight for the boys. Our king bed would have taken up the bulk of the room!

The one on Kennedy could be really nice but it would need 100k+ just to move in. It was that bad inside!

I am not looking for perfection by any means but that kind of work could take months!

Re: House Hunters...who's looking

There's not much on the market in RVC at all, I sympathize!

Have you checked out the house on Pine Street? It looks decent, needs a bit of work but I'm not sure how big the bedrooms are. There's also one on Capitolian but it's been on the market for a while so I wonder what's going on with it.

Good luck!

Re: House Hunters...who's looking

We are looking in Centerport, Greenlawn, and East Northport. We've made an offer, but the seller hasn't come down much and we feel it's overpriced so we'll see. There's not a whole lot in our price range so I hope if this doesn't work out that a lot more comes on the market in the month or so.

We've been looking for about 5 months.
We started looking in East Islip to Bayport. But haven't been to lucky.
So we expanded our search to Bohemia, Lake Grove, Nesconset and Smithtown.
Found a few in these areas and hopefully making a decision very soon.

Re: House Hunters...who's looking

Laura we looked at both those houses. The one on Pine has a bizzare set up on the first floor and we would need to take walls down. The bedrooms were small as well. The one on Capatolian has a beautiful kitchen. The bedrooms are fine and it has a walk up attic. Problem with that house is has no yard. Like no grass at all out back. It is on a corner but it has a 2 car garage and no other space Chat Icon

I need to have more money!!!

Happy for you ladies that have found the house. Keep us posted on what is heppening!Chat Icon

Re: House Hunters...who's looking

We are looking in NJ. I finally saw some neighborhoods that were what we were looking for. We have been looking for almost a year on and off. I too am not excited about putting our current home on the market. I need to declutter a lot.

Re: House Hunters...who's looking

We own an apt in rvc and are hoping to purchase a house in town sometime soon. I have been to the house on Sherman, Kennedy and Pine and completely agree with your comments!

We're also looking in bellmore, which is where I grew up. Fortunately its just DH and I (for now) and we have no pressure to move. We're just trying to be patient.
