hot toy this holiday?
Anyone have guesses on what the hot toy for boys will be this holiday? I figured I'd look into it while it's still early before it sells out.

Hmmmm.... none of that sounds like something my son would be interested in. However, he did buy a Pikmi pop the other day, and now his room smells like bananas.

Who decides what the "hot" toy will be each year?
Some marketing execs?
Do they sit there in August and say, we will hold back production and distribution on XYZ toy so it's hard to get and therefore creates a frenzy?
And thereby drives the price up? control supply to increase demand and price?
Because i asked DD if she wanted some of these toys listed and the only one she as remotely interested in was the LOL doll- but she said- I dont' want the big one- just the small one and the medium one. (which they have plenty of)
So I sometimes wonder if it's just marketing people determining what is hot, and creating artificial shortages and demand- not kids themselves.

Yeah, I have no idea how the "hot" toy is decided. Personally, I don't care about that stuff, but DS was bummed that he didn't get Pie Face like his friends.
I typically avoid hyped stuff and was so glad DS didn't care about Hatchimals. There were so many people on my FB page complaining about them after Xmas - WAY overpriced and boring (at least according to my friends' posts).

How old is your DS? My DS is turning 9 right after Christmas and he was excited about the ripstik, an airplane drone, and lazor tag. I always have a harder time finding cool things for my boys vs my girls.

that is what I am thinking. Why can't they ramp up the factory in China and start pumping out more for the holidays?
I am sure they can increase production on these things.

Was down in NJ visiting friends this weekend and we were in Target. We were able to get LOL's and tamagotchi's - both displays had '1 per household' limit signs on them. The cashier said they can't keep them on the shelves along with the Fingerling monkey's.

I see parents all over FB selling a ton of these toys. They go to the store, get a bunch of them and then are reselling them to parents using the FB buy and sell groups for a profit. Maybe if greedy people weren't scooping them all up to make a profit, there'd be some in the stores to buy.

I'm so happy with don't have cable any more and just watch Netflix or use our Fire Stick instead. No more commercials brainwashing my dd in to wanting certrain toys for Xmas! Last year was terrible - she said she wanted every single thing she saw in every single commercial that came on! Even commercials for completely ridiculous items.

Absolutely true!
We put on very little TV with ads (we watch lots of PBS and stuff on demand). But when we do... kids start saying immediately they want something.
They don’t have access to YouTube.

Oh yes, the YouTube videos are very brainwashing as well. I try to avoid those. My dd is extra bad with commercials though. She would even get excited over commercials for random things like humidifiers and even cleaning products, asking for those from Santa. So ridiculous! Then she'd repeat the lines from the commercials whenever she saw the products. We were in the store once and she saw a bottle of Clorox and was like "Mom, we need to buy this because Clorox means Clean!"  She was only 4 years old and couldn't even read, but she knew what Clorox was and wanted it

So glad I'm the slacker mom that lets her kids watch regular YouTube! They've never heard of lol surprise or hatchimals but they request the music videos where Katy Perry gets cooked into soup or the guy is trying to escape the hospital where he's ties up.

We dont' have You Tube Kid's either (another slacker mom here! ) but you can find these videos on regular You Tube.

Thanks for the heads up lol. They only use it on the tv so at least I can keep half an ear on what they're watching. Plus there's no touch screen so they don't really find their way into stuff on their own.
