Hospital bag
I'm finishing up packing my bag and have a couple of questions. Any ideas on what to bring for snacks? The only thing I have so far is granola bars. Also, some lists say to bring diapers & wipes. I thought the hospital provides those??

Re: Hospital bag
For snacks I'm bringning Luna bars, apple sauce cups and Propel water. I'm skipping the wipes and diapers -- I thought the hospital provided those, as well.

Re: Hospital bag
the hospital does provide diapers and wipes...TAKE THEM and let them refill your bassinett!
Snacks: graham crackers, anything light. You can't have anything to eat after your epidural because it slows down all functioning below your waist (including digestion) and if you go in for a C section, having the food in your system could cause problems. I asked because I was famished but they wouldn't let me have anything!
Reading material, music, socks/slippers. I brought all this stuff and didn't bother with it....I wore the hospital nightgown, wore their slipper socks over my own, and didn't shower till the next day and put on knit pants and a huge shirt.
Maybe your own shampoo and soap for the shower?
I wore the undies the hospital gave me after birth because it was messy and they stuff you with an ice filled diaper for the swelling (which BTW is the BEST thing ever!!!)

Re: Hospital bag
My hospital had a crappy supply of diapers and no wipes. I brought my own. Also LYSOL. Maybe it's the germaphobe in me but I am so glad I did. I also brought my own maxipads with wings. I didn't wear the diaper type ones they provided( but some people like them).

Re: Hospital bag
These are some good ideas. I really need to get packing!
I am going to make SURE I have a chapstick too. I know I can get miserable without it.

Re: Hospital bag
Have DH pack some stuff that he likes... Some hospitals won't let you eat during labor, so just check with them first.

Re: Hospital bag
I had a full bag packed and didn't use half of it. I had a bunch of magazines and I think I peaked at one. I brought the Ipod and I think DH turned it on once. I never used my robe. I did bring nice cotton Hanes undies, which were so much more comfy to me than the hosiptal ones. I wore sweatsuits and tanks the two days post pardum. I brought snacks, which did come in handy- granola bars, cereal bars, cookies. You're not allowed to eat while in labor, but my nurse did allow me sucking candies to keep from getting too dry, so you may want to have some Lifesavers or Jolly Ranchers. I also used a lot of Blistex (the kind in the little tub.)
