They will question the kids and then close the case as it is unfounded. I hate how people use cps to hurt innocent people, I've had it done to me 3 times and its horrible. I feel like those people should have consequences, not only is it horrible to do that to innocent people but you are wasting the time of the worker who could be helping kids who need it. I feel for your friend, even tho I knew I was innocent of the claims and nothing would come of it I was still a wreck having to deal with it.
Eta: I'm sure once her job gets the report that it's unfounded, she will be fine.

Re: Holy Sh!t, does anyone have experience with CPS?
Do you know what they will be asked? You can FM if you want. SHe is really just SO concerned that it will traumatic for her kids, aside from the other things she is rightfully terrified about. She doesn't know when they may or may not show up, but her father was a cop and said that charges of sexual abuse get bumped to the top of the list, so if they are going to question them, she expects it to be VERY soon.
I told her that I am sure that this is not CPSs first time at the rodeo and they won't ask them questions that will be traumatizing for them and they know how to approach the situation.
I can't even imagine being in her (or your) position right now.
Aside from these charges, she is stalking them. Its BY FAR the craziest story I have ever heard. I fear for all of them, honestly, but I don't even know what to say.

Re: Holy Sh!t, does anyone have experience with CPS?
If she hasn't already, she should call the cops or go to the precinct and file a report, also look into doing a restraining order. The paper trail is very important.
Also since she is mentally ill she should also call mobile crisis. This is a team of social workers and often a psychiatrist that can go in and evaluate her and get her hospitalized if need be.
I bet anything if she has the kind of history you mentioned, she is known to them already.
ETA: Re-read and saw cops already notified. She should keep doing it if it progresses. As others have mentioned too with CPS, they will close the case if it's unfounded. The goal of CPS too from what I have always been told is prevention and to leave kids with their natural parents unless of course it's unsafe which is not the situation with your friend.

They will be very tactful with the kids and it should not feel scary to them at all. They are WONDERFUL at getting kids to open up without the realizing it. These are truly great people who interview kids. In fact they are specialized in this. Just have her keep filing reports if the ex nanny keeps contacting her. I would also make sure the sister and father will testify if need be.

Re: Holy Sh!t, does anyone have experience with CPS?
I have dealt with ACS as we live in the city.
They didn't really question my DS, but he had given a statement to the DA and it was video taped so maybe they didn't feel they had to.
it was dealing with my exDH, so they mainly got the facts from me. Spoke to my parents and my SIL (who is my babysitter) and that's all we had to do.
And yes, they literally just showed up at my house

Re: Holy Sh!t, does anyone have experience with CPS?
Cps was wrongly called on my parents when I was a kid. The person didn't make sexual abuse allegations so I don't know if protocol is different but my sister and I weren't even really questioned. And we did know when they were coming but my uncle was a detective with the NYPD at the time so I don't know if he was somehow able to get us a heads up. The woman was very nice from what I rememer, this was like 20 years ago, and just sat at the dining room table with my parents and asked some questions took some infor action then did a quick look around the house.
I'm so sorry your friend is having to deal with this right now, I remember how upset my mother was when she found out that someone had done this. And if it's any consolation to her thank god this is worst that has come from this situation, a mentally unstable person off their meds caring for her children. That is so scary.

I have no advice to give. I'm sorry about all of this.
My question is .. Was care.com contacted in all of this? They should be notified of all of this, with supporting documentation.

While I agree with this when it comes to stuff like parental alienation, depending on who makes the call, sometimes they have no choice, especially if they are a mandated reporter, like myself.
I've had to make that call a handful of times and usually it was to get an overwhelmed parent extra services/supports they would not receive otherwise.
Especially when the father was not being supportive at.all.
I have colleagues who work in the CPS system and it's a mess to begin with----needs more funding and workers overall for kids/families who really need it.
But that's a separate thread!

Re: Holy Sh!t, does anyone have experience with CPS?
We had something similar in our family.. not similar but, false allegations (of abuse.. not sexual). They were 100% unfounded and the person was still put on some child abuse watch list simply because he was accused. Our case was A LOT more complicated.. not sure if that is still the norm but, it was 20 years ago. There were all kind of lawyers hired to have it expunged. I hope things have changed.
It's just awful. People are CRAZY and don't realize the implications of playing games like that. Even if the Nanny recinded her statement it would still stick as an allegation. Because, technically you could have forced her to say it wasn't true or threatened her. It makes sense but, it's awful. The person in my family retracted the statement right away and still the person was on the watch list or something.

Holy Sh!t, does anyone have experience with CPS?
I have had to call CPS a couple of times when I was a mandated reporter in the past. the experiences I had with them were pretty good - I think they see enough in their line of work to be able to recognize false claims when they come up. As long as they are honest with the CPS worker and document everything, they should be OK. And I agree that the police should be involved as well.

i was also thinking along the lines of the crisis team. Couldn't she turn the tables and have her involuntarily committed to stonybrook where she undergoes 48 hr eval? Then at least it would prove friends case and get her back on meds.
