Holiday decoration tips and tricks
Care to share?
I saw a great way to hang garland in your banister. Use Velcro garden tape. It sucks to itself and is green.

I use clear command hooks to hang lights and decorations inside my windows. Easy to take off when done.

Re: Holiday decoration tips and tricks
I pack all of the decorations up in separate totes by room so they are easier to put up the next year. For example, I have a tote labeled "Christmas - Den." All of the decorations that go in my den are in that tote. I also switch out decorations on my bookshelves and stuff so the everyday stuff goes IN the tote when I take the Christmas stuff out and then when I take Christmas down, it goes back out.
The tote method cuts the decorating time in half.

The less you put up, the less you have to take down a month later. That's my tip.

Re: Holiday decoration tips and tricks
my first christmas owning a house i learned that a single (or maybe two) strategically placed spotlights on a nice decor item is a simple, neat, and elegant way to decorate he exterior.
i will never go back to string lights.
i hope i explained that right.

Trust me, it's close to that! if we didn't have DD I don't think I'd even bother with a tree. Or at least not a big one....maybe a tabletop thing or something.
I just have 0 desire to decorate. We have to do it next weekend and I am DREADING it.
Another unpopular opinion of mine....I don't find this the "best time of the year" like everyone on my facebook seems to. Talk to me when I'm opening my pool.....

I got these for this year! I also swear by the Command velcro strips for hanging on the walls. It's never taken off my paint and nothing has EVER fallen.

I use my daughters homemade decorations to decorate the house! Saves me $$ and she feels more invested in the decor-- lol!

I do this too! I have to unpack my usual decor from my Thanksgiving tote to put in my Christmas tote. LOL
How does everyone keep their stockings hung? I have decorative stocking hooks for my fireplace mantle but once any weight goes in the stocking, they fall. I wish I could fill the stockings but keep them hanging. How do you do it?

We hang our stockings on our bannister with yarn. I don't keep them filled and hanging - it's too much weight, and I think the hanging loop would rip after a while with so much weight. We always put the stocking leaning up against the present pile of the adult/child of who it's labeled.

Same. They stay up until Xmas Eve and then once I fill them I take them down and lean them up against the fireplace. They are too heavy to stay up once filled.

Where does everyone hang their stockings if you don't have a mantle?
Staircase? Any other ideas?

On the stair case with heavy zip ties. The stockings usually are very heavy and it has held them up.

I have a mantle and thank God, because I don't even have a staircase in my house. (ranch) LOL I guess the next step would be the wall!

Re: Holiday decoration tips and tricks
I do not have a china closet but I do have a sideboard table or buffet table whatever you call it… The knobs of the drawers are what I use to hang our stockings. But I have to say I do like the staircase idea. My staircase I hang off tiny little elf laundry and Santa laundry that I got from one of those catalogs a few years ago. Next year it will be the stockings

We hang our stockings on our wall tree hooks. Kinda sucks since we can't really use the hooks for the month of December but I have a coat rack anyway. My mom hangs hers from the banister and uses green zip ties.

On the banister tied with wide decorative ribbon. Never had a problem even once they're filled.

This will be our first Christmas without a fireplace. I plan on hanging our stockings on my blanket ladder in the living room. Pinterest inspired me

I hang our stockings on the banister with twine. You can't see the twine because I put garland along the banister.

I have never had a mantle or an exposed staircase. We don't do stockings any more but as a kid, my parents hung them with thumbtacks from this little cutout "window between the living room & kitchen, and in my apartments, I have used stocking holders ( designed for a mantle) and on a deep windowsill or a bookcase.

I hang the stockings on the banister. We don’t fill them with much, my kids get a pair of pajamas and a book in there. DH- I have to wrap his stocking gift he gets a calendar and then I get chocolates. For lights I do the clear command hook light clips. I just do inside around my window. My outdoor electric is non existent in the front of my house so I really can’t hang lights without leaving my garage door open to run an extension cord which is annoying but it’s less for us to decorate! I put a wreath up, a few candy canes outside and the lights in my big front three windows and then focus indoors, especially for the kids now
