High Amniotic fluid levels
Hi,
Did any of you experience this in your pregnancies?
If so did they go down at some point ? Any effect on the baby?

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
I was told that I had high amniotic fluid levels late in my first pregnancy (at my 36w growth sono). The OB wanted me to come back for a follow-up sono the following week to check it a second time & to discuss any possible issues if it was still high, but I couldn't get there for a week & a half & I wound up going into labor on my own before then. Everything was fine with ds

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
It's called polyhydramnios- mild cases might resolve themselves. More severe cases *could* be associated with premature birth or a bigger baby. Either way, your PCP will most likely keep an eye on it.

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
I had this with my second DC. they noticed it about 36 weeks and resent me for 3 hour glucose which I passed. DS was also measuring big. He ended up being 9 lbs 9 oz and I needed a c section. When the dr broke my water it was like a flood! No negative effects on baby at all. But they had to test his glucose levels immediately after birth(because of size) but the levels were ok. They do it right in front of you. Dr thinks I prob had some sort of gestational diabetes that just wasn't showing up because of combo of baby's size and amount of fluid. On a positive side all of that fluid I had made the scale go down real fast! I had gained 40 lbs and looked huge but left the hospital 40 lbs lighter! Good Luck!

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
I had this with my first baby. They put me on modified bedrest at 34 weeks as mine was severe. I had to stay close to the hospital at all times. Nothing ended up happening, other than being extremely uncomfy. Oh, and my baby was born at 11 pounds 8 oz. But I lost 40 pounds in the delivery room! Silver lining!

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
I had moderately high levels with both of my pregnancies. I remember the doctor telling me that, in my case, it probably had to do with the size of the baby. I tend to have rather large newborns.

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
I had extremely high levels of amniotic fluid, but my DS was 11-8 at birth (10 days early ) so they said big baby=big fluid ....My fluid level stayed high and he was born perfect....
The doctor joked he was going in wearing goulashes
Don't google search ...it will make you batty

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
Thanks all.
I go back next week to get checked.
I will be 30 weeks at that point.
When first checked at 27 weeks it was at the high end of the normal range.
I passed my glucose test so that rules out GD.
You are right googling stresses me out.

Re: High Amniotic fluid levels
i also had idiopathic high fluid levels and everything was completely normal, DS was born at 40w2d weighing 8.7 lbs.
the only issues for me was that because my fluid was high, DS was able to move around and kept flipping between transverse and breech up until the very end. I also never progressed - never dilated or effaced so we went in for a csection at 40w2d
