High levels of amniotic fluid
Has anyone experienced (or known someone who has) high levels of amniotic fluid. I was at a growth sono today (34 weeks) and my levels were high enough that the tech brought the doctor in (not my doc, though). My levels are above the 90th percentile and he started talking about all the possible reasons. (GD - I know I don't have after the screening, tracheoesophageal fistula, all sorts of genetic conditions) Of course I began freaking out and am now googling and freaking out more. Anyone with experience with this?

Re: High levels of amniotic fluid
I had high fluid with DD and really high fluid with DS #2 ...Both my kids were very big though (DD was 9-13 and DS was 11-8) They were 10 days early and no GD at all...My OB said big baby=extra amniotic fluid...
Is the baby measuring on the bigger side?

Re: High levels of amniotic fluid
I had a lot.. she wasn't a big baby.
they just said they'd monitor it.. no real worries. they said I may not feel her move around since she's got so much free space to play in LOL. There were times she was 'quiet'.
I had a doctor visit the DAY my water broke and I was still swimming pool USA (as I called myself)

Re: High levels of amniotic fluid
How high were your numbers? I had it with DD#1. I did not have GD with that pregnancy and did not have high levels with my second baby. But they did think that DD#1 could have a TE fistula (you should speak with your doctor because there is testing you can do now and if they think there is a chance you need to do testing at birth before you can feed the baby). When did you do the GD test - I know some people who passed the test but developed it late I think the standard is to redo the glucose test if you have excess fluid. I think a lot of cases are unexplained. That is what I ended up being. They never determined the cause. My numbers were high though back around 22 weeks or so not starting at around 30 weeks. I did end up with more discomfort and ended up on bed rest because I was getting contractions when moving around too much. My fluid level dropped to normal levels around 36.5 weeks. You should speak with your doctor because there are some increase risks - but nothing I would lose sleep over at this time. BTW how are you measuring - my girls were both 9+ lbs.
Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.
