My grandparents live there. Its okay, pretty much normal in my opinion.
This might get more replys on Home though...Ask there too.

I used to live there and still work there.
I lived on the Plainview border, behind Our Lady of Mercy.
Most of the town is nice, but I would steer clear of anything close to Broadway. There are a ton of rental houses there and it's very rundown.
It has a huge business area so taxes aren't too bad, the schools are okay in my opinion and if you like to eat out, there are a ton of restaurants.
The biggest thumbs down is the fact that there are so many rentals and a lot of bodega's and junk shops are popping up on Broadway to cater to the large increase of them.

I used to rent in a private house off of South Oyster Bay Road, on the Plainview border. It was a really nice neighborhood. Hicksville is really big, the schools are large, so that might be a con for you.
