Here's the SIL scoop. (slightly graphic)
Thanks for everyone who has FM'd me & answered my posts about my SIL. I truly appreciated them from the bottom of my heart.
I was hesitant to post the reason she was on life support because some people had just posted about having a similar and possible diagnosis that led to her being on life support.
She has Crohn's disease. Several months ago they removed large sections of her small intestines. There was a complication with the mesh they used & it was infected. They found that it created a small hole in her vaginal wall & that waste was causing sever vaginal infections. This last round, she was in pain and went to the hospital. They did a scan & determined that scar tissue had formed & was strangling her intestines. When they opened her up they found gangrene & cut out more of the small intestines & put a colostomy bag. Later she had liver failure, internal bleeding & no blood clotting, a staph infection & shingles.
I'm not holding back on what she's gone through. Crohn's is a serious chronic disease with many complications, it is not considered a fatal illness. My SIL NEVER once followed her doctor instructions. She claimed he only told her to stay away from bread (as she ate pizza, bagels & heros) and refused to quit smoking as he repeatedly asked her. Rather than alter her diet or take antibiotics as she was prescribed, she assumed she'd go to the hospital and they would just take care of it. Now she may be paying for that decision with her life.
DH came back tonight more hopeful than I've seen him the past 2 weeks. He said her liver enzymes are up, the pneumonia & shingles no longer seem to be present and they're controlling the internal bleeding. Her new doctor said that while it is still a grave situation, it is not at hopeless as they originally thought. She's 39 & has two very important reasons to fight (a 9 year old & 13 year old).
Anyway, I know I had these vague posts about her & wanted to share what was going on. I pray she survives this & that she finally learns to listen to her doctors.
Thank you all again for all of the hugs & prayers.

OMG That is extremely scary and a very sad situation. As I have mentioned before I also suffer from Crohn's but luckily I have been able to control it w/ meds. It is frightening when I think about how bad it gets for some. I truly hope the best for your SIL and family.

I know. I was in tears as I read your post last week. You were one of the ones I was worrying about. Hope you pass your test with flying colors.

Re: Here's the SIL scoop. (slightly graphic)
I am so very sorry for what your SIL is going through .. It's so sad
My brother has Crohn's Disease and as you said, on its own it is not at all considered to be "life threatening," nor would the disease normally cause this this type of a situation to occur.. but the key is to really take care of yourself when being diagnosed with this disease, as complications are common if you do not heed your doctor's advice. I am sorry your family and your SIL is learning this the hard way
MANY many prayers for you all and for your SIL's continued recovery!
