HELP..Would you travel 3 plus, maybe 4 hours?
We got an invitation to a graduation party for my DHs niece...they live in CT; with the ferry and drive, it's about 3 plus hours.
I will be 38 weeks at the time of this party.
I absolutely don't want to go, and think my Dh is a total insensitive jerk for giving me an attitude and thinking that we should go (he says he feels bad because they come to all our parties and make the trip...well they are not 38 weeks pregnant!!!)
I just think it's risky to be so far away from my MDs....am I being too paranoid?
Be honest....should I just see how I feel that day and go if I feel ok? This is my first pregnancy, so I'm a bit cautious and paranoid, and don't know if I'm being overly cautious.
(Right now I'm 35 weeks and on my first internal the MD said the head is way down...I'm feeling a lot of pressure....doesn't mean that I'll go early...I could still go full term or even late).

Re: HELP..Would you travel 3 plus, maybe 4 hours?
DH and I drove to maryland (4.5hrs) when I was 36 weeks pregnant... (my dr said it was fine)
I then proceeded to walk for hours upon end in Baltimores inner harbor....
Other than my itchies I felt great....
I just made sure that I knew where the closet hospital was "just in case"
If you feel up to it....then go...and if you dont then dont!
People who live in CT have babies there all the time!

I think your DH should reconsider his attitude. I'd just send a card & gift with regrets for not being able to attend. I would imagine everybody would understand your circumstances.
We usually head up to CT to celebrate the 4th of July with a bunch of friends. Needless to say, we'll be spending it on Long Island this year. Although I think it's highly unlikely I will go into labor that day, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Fortunately DH agrees with me (plus he doesn't want me to be uncomfortable for the drive and such.)
Hopefully your DH will come around.

It is awfully far. You can't predict how you'll feel that day and what if you were to go into labor or your water were to break? I think its something you would have to play by ear and maybe discuss it with your doctor and see what he thinks.

I would not go, I wouldn't want to have to deliver in a strange hospital if anything happened.

I wouldn't go, either. When I was 38 weeks pg last summer, we skipped DH's annual family getaway to Monticello (although that would have been overnight). There was no way I was going and DH completely understood.
Will your DH go by himself?

38 weeks traveling that far is really pushing it. I think the car ride for you is going to be extremely uncomfortable for you. Your DH needs to understand that......but thats alot to ask of you that far along.
Is he willing to go without you? His family will have to understand as well......and Im sure they will as any human being should!

I think you should make sure you DH comes to your next OBGYN appointment so he can hear for himself from your DR that it isn't a great idea. Especially if the baby's head is already really down.

I wouldn't go but I'd suggest that your DH go by himself, then someone will be at the party and you don't need to worry about going into labor on the ferry!

Thats what I was going to say. sometimes men need to hear it from the Dr to really believe it
I also think its kinda far, and being summertime makes it even more tiring in some ways.

Men! Tell DH when he's able to carry a baby who is so low it feels like they're going to fall out- he can make decisions about how far you travel.

When my DH got home from work, he said that he didn't really think about what he was saying, and didn't give much thought as to my condition...so he apologized.
Thanks ladies

If you feel good that day I would go but your DH should understand why you wouldn't want to go.
Honestly IF you did go into labor you would more than likely have plenty of time to get back home with plenty of time.
Will you have an appointment before you go? Maybe the doc could give you a better answer.
