Help with Toddler-diarrhea 4 days peds no help
Dd started having diarrhea on sat night and then started to vomit on Monday morning. I brought her to the peds today and he only seemed to be concerned on her fluid intake. I understand why but he did not offer any suggestions to get rid of her loose poop. She will only drink water no pedialite or gaterade, chocolate milk all get refused. He told me with hold food only offer her the liquid after 4 hrs she will give in. I thought that was crazy since she was screaming for food.
Any suggestions? I feel so bad for her
Thanks

Sounds like a bug... Try binding foods. Rice, banana's, applesauce, crackers. Staying hydrated is important. NO DAIRY!!! Makes the poopies worse... White grape juice is good as it helps to heal the intestinal tract....

I agree sounds like a virus. I would just give food like crackers, bread, bananas. I would just give clear fluids definitely no milk. I'm sure it will pass. If in 2 days she still isn't better call dr back.

Stick to brat diet- brat- bananas, rice, apples, toast all binding. Grape juice as well is binding. Make sure she drinks water when she can to avoid dehydration and watch for signs of that. Thats all you can really do. No dairy no milk at all. Makes everything worse.

Sounds like the bug going around. Definitely stick to binding foods & no dairy. Try to get a probitic also as it will help with diarrhea

Its a bug. There's nothing really to do but make sure dc gets enough hydration till it passes. My 9mo had it for 5 days last week; my 6yo just went back to school today after being out 2 days. No dairy; give pedialyte or pedialyte pops, diluted Gatorade, even Popsicles.

also give probiotics -we battled diarea for over 2 weeks - we did two different probiotics -each once a day workded for one twin -the other needed them both tice a day - but they helped - also we switched off of regular milk to lactaid till their gut -coiuld break down milk again - about a week or two after diareas went away

Re: Help with Toddler-diarrhea 4 days peds no help
DS has had the runs since Saturday am. He went maybe 5-6 times sat and sunday and now 1-2 per day since but still diarrhea.
Our ped was also useless "just make sure he is drinking and use florestore"
He was starting to have anxiety about going and wiping since it was becoming painful. At almost 4 years and 40lbs, a friend who is also a pharmacist said it IS safe to use childrens Imodium - 1mg up to 3 times per day but we have only used it 1x per day and it has helped! Limited BMs to 1x per day!
Besides the diarrhea, he is fine. He did spike a 104 fever Saturday evening which started this whole thing but no fever since sunday am. No vomiting.

Brat diet and water. How are you going to replace electrolytes if dc is only drinking water? Having an appetite is a good sign in my mind.
