Help with name for DS#2-- Too serious of a name?? Not sure how I feel

We have having DS#2 in a few months & DH loves the name Benedict (like Cumberbatch the actor). Baby's middle name will be Robert for my dad. I'm not so sure, I'm wondering if it's too heavy/serious of a name for a baby (or anyone really), not really a "cute" name. We'd probably call him Ben & DH has already started referring to him as "Ben" or "Benny" ... I'm just not sure if I can commit to this one. Especially since DS#1 has a much more typical, common, "cute" name. I'm also worried if we call him "Ben" people will just assume his name in Benjamin which is not a name we are considering at all.

DH also somewhat likes the name Daniel, which I'm kinda just indifferent about. I like the name David, which DH also likes & I could probably convince him to use, but I'd feel bad because it's not his favorite.

Ugh it was so much easier last time!

Can you tell me your thoughts on Benedict as a name, and also our other choices PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE??? I want to hear what people think when they hear it (and no standard answers like "If you love it, use it"... that's not what I'm looking for here.... I want YOUR opinion/thoughts of these specific names... you won't hurt my feelings & I won't be offended, I promise, just the cold hard truth please!!!!)... Should I try to push for David instead? I can't decide how I feel about these names.

I'll always think of Benedict arnold when I hear that name. Not a fan personally but it's not so bad if you called him Ben.

Im not crazy about either name. Just my opinion. But out of the two i like daniel.

I like it. I definitely think of Cumberbatch - but if you will call him Ben, its NBD.

its nice... but its definitely a 'heavy"/"serious" name.... i had a student one year whose name was Bennet... i thought that was cute, maybe a good compromise?? you could still call him "Ben"...

My co workers son is Bennett, which is cute. I also like Daniel but not Benedict. Sorry.

Don't like the name at all but i do really like David. It just sounds like a strong, successful name.

But YOU have to like it, or love it.
It sounds like you don't... Which is ok & your sign to go back to the drawing board.

our DS is Benjamin Gabriel.
When people found out (before he was born) they ALL tried to convince us to change it. we got a lot of the "it's too serious for a baby" comments.

and then he was born, and all the comments stopped. it fits him perfectly. He has many nicknames, but he goes by Benny. I do love Benjamin and call him that all the time.

My DS has a super traditional heavy family name, I HATED it when we named him. But, its a 5th generation family name (DH side) and I didnt want to be THAT girl that ended the tradition. I HATED it but hes much older now and I couldnt think of him as anything else. He does have a younger sounding nickname which we call him regularly but his formal name is very traditional and somewhat heavy. I like it now and I think itll be great when hes an adult and say a business man, its a serious name and I think that bodes will for business should that be what he chooses to do. its a very CEO-esque name.

I don't like Benedict. At all. But, I love both Daniel and David. I think I like Daniel Robert the best. Has a great ring to it.

I like the name. It's different and you can call him Ben. Would your DH consider it for the middle name as a compromise? Then you can do David Benedict. I like Benedict better than David though, but you have to like the name not me lol

I personally like David, but that could be because that's DS's name... It's surprising no where near as common today than we originally thought. In 6 years of public school, a couple of years in preschool, several sports, after school activities, I don't think we've had another David in his class.

I'm of the mind that kids "become" their names - - - so just go with whatever works for you and DH.

When I was a kid - I always used to think to myself "i can't stand my best friend's dad's name….my dad's name is way cooler". I ended up marrying a man with the same name as my best friend's dad - - - and DS is named that too…….so now I'm surrounded by that awful name, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I'm the oddball out, I actually like it. And I don't mind Ben as a nickname. If people assume it's Benjamin, you can just correct them.
I think it's a very strong, masculine name. He's only a kid for so long, when he's an adult it will probably flow much nicer.

I think it's a lot of name and I don't think every kid can pull it off, kwim?
