HELP! What can I drink????

I've only "officially" been pregnant for a day, and I'm already sick of water!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm already a milk drinker, so that's good...but what else can I have? I've lived on Crystal Light and regular unsweetened iced tea. Someone told me I could drink regular Sprite, but I'm also insulin-resistant and need to control my sugar intake.

HELP! it's looking bleak! Chat Icon

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

To be honest, I've learned to drink more water than before b/c it truly is the best thing. I often add a few lemons slices into it. But, the water is the best thing for clearing out the system, keeping hydrated, not adding excess calories, keeping "regular", etc. I will drink some powerade or decaf ice tea from time to time and I have OJ in the morning. After a while, all the water drinking almost became an unconscious act for me, but it does make me visit the ladies room often!

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

lol, I couldn't stand water my whole first trimester...it tasted like metal to me!
I drank lots of Oj, caff free ice tea, caff free soda like sierra mist (helped with my m/s bigtime!)

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

Beth!
I did lots of sugar free juices- I became a huge bottle reader. I lived on apple juice my first trimester and caffeine free coke but I'd limit it to only having it at meal times.
I was terrible with water the first tri so I stuck with the juice and watered it down sometimes just to keep up with the fluid intake. Just watch the sugar but don't go crazy. If you're craving something, don't deny yourself just because it has sugar or caffeine. Here is your favorite phrase....

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

I really like seltzer mixed with juices - like cranberry, or grape.
Careful to read the labels (as pp said.) Especially the sugar free and low calorie drinks, many contain sugar substitute, which you want to avoid as much as possible. (aspertame and sucrolose (sp))

CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

that's truly a problem.... avoiding sugars AND artificial sweeteners?
well, flavored seltzers and waters are sugar/caffeine free

also, you can get into the habit of brewing your own caffeine free tea and decaf coffee for ice tea/coffee.

if you can handle a little bit of sugar, I tend to drink a lot of water with a splash of an exotic juice..... blood orange, black current, mixed berry, papaya, blueberry.....

I drink Propel and ice water with lemon in it. I drink that through a straw, for some reason that makes water go down easier.
Also I'll water down cranberry juice.
I would defnitely limit soda, it's totally empty calories.

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

i'm obsessed with the flavored seltzers from stop & shop...the "zazz" ones. they have a billion different flavors and if you add a splash of juice, it really kicks it up a little.

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

I also have to watch my sugars, I had gestational diabetes when I was preggo with Hayley.

My Dr said I could drink diet sodas in moderation

I also drank alot of Fruit 2 O water. It has splenda and I am ok with eating/drinking things with splenda.

I am now at a point where I look for plain cold water to drink.

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

Seltzer is good, especially the flavored kind but I found it was bloating me beyond belief so I had to cut down.
I do juice with breakfast, and juice with lunch and then milk with dinner. The rest of the day I drink water with a splash of lemon juice, or key lime juice (if you can find it.)

Good Luck, and Congratulations!!

I love vitamin water, but it does have sugar, however, not as much as a drink like gatorade or regular fruit juice ( with sugar added, no sugar added fruit juice is ok) The problem is if you are diabetic, these drinks may have too much sugar...

propel water has less sugar, also there are fruit seltzers that have no sugar at all. but water is best. You could try herbal brewed tea, with ice cubes, They have no caffeine. (grandma's tummymint is my fave)

Congrats on your pg!

Do you like lemonade? I drank it almost exclusively throughout my first trimester. It helped with the nausea and it tasted GOOOOD. Chat Icon

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

I drank a lot of juices - OJ, apple, cranberry and pomegranate. I had the occassional can of soda and glass of ice tea.

Gatorade helped alleviate my leg cramps, so I've been drinking a lot of that lately.

Re: HELP! What can I drink????

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I had totally forgotten about lemonade, so I will have to make some. Also good to know about the 4C drink mix--I'll pick some of that up, too.

Thanks again! Chat Icon
