Help me pick a hospital

okay so I'm not pregnant but DH plan to hopefully try in the future so I need some help from you ladies.

My current gyn is not an OB but there are other OB's in the practice. However the practice is affliated with Winthrop which I don't know much about.

I also received a recommendation from my sister to switch to her gyn who she loves and who is an OB. Her doc is affiliated with South Nassau and Mercy. Again I'm kinda clueless an to the reputation of these hospitials.

so with all that said, anyone who plans on giving birth at either Winthrop, South Nassau or Mercy please let me know what you think and which if any I should stay away from.

TIA!

I second thisChat Icon
Winthrop has private rooms, to make sure you get one you should request it as soon as you are admitted.

Re: Help me pick a hospital

I'm also delivering at Winthrop, I used to work for a pediatrician and he always had the best things to say about their NICU and the nurses on staff. They have private rooms at an additional cost but I don't remember offhand what the charge was.

Re: Help me pick a hospital

I would actually pick South Nassau over Winthrop... ALL the rooms are private, the nurses are beyond outstanding, they are extremely pro-BFing there but will do everything they can to help you no matter WHAT your decision. THe rooms are new and big, they have a lax visitors policy, and the baby can stay with you at all times.

My old OB (I've since moved) is in Bellmore on Merrick Road, let me know if you want the name/#. I really liked her!

I believe that's NUMC. They have the rooms with the tubs if you want to have a water birth, and have midwives on staff.

There is a midwife that delivers there and she's great. She works in the same office with a solo practioner OB, Dr. Seth Plancher.

Re: Help me pick a hospital

i thought the private rooms were $220 a night, until i got there and found out i was having a c-section (4 nights) and found out it went up to $275 a night. Chat Icon we canceled the private room and got a semi-private (regular room). even the nurses said save yourself the $1000 and go on vacation. after 2 nights i got a new roommate who after 15 minutes of being there was so loud the nurses offered to move me to a quieter room.
