HELP! desperate for help. 20 month old and naps

dd has been fighting naps all week. This is not normal. I rock her most days to calm her down a bit then she goes in and sleeps 2-3 hours.

Well this week she hasn't napped at all every day shes screaming up there. Yesterday we we out all day she feel asleep in the car for 10 mins then wouldn't transfer like she normally does.

She's just standing up crying. I don't know what else to try. I've tried the cio for 2 hours the other day, she cried on and off but would never sit down. I've given tylenol. I rocked her until she was passed out. Nothing

Any advice? She's to young to not nap

She may be done with naps or it could be a phase. My cousin's son stopped napping at 14 months old. She tried everything - wouldn't nap anymore.

I'd keep trying for a nap and if she doesn't go down, don't force it. No one is happy then. Just put her to bed earlier maybe. Also, maybe you need to adjust the time she goes down for a nap. Maybe it's too early? Sometimes it's just a phase and they will resume napping on their own.

I found I used to put DS down too early for a nap. He sleeps 7pm to 7am, and then his nap is usually 12ish to 2ish. Once I started putting him down later he slept. GOOD LUCK it is soooo frustrating!!!!

something similar happened with my dd around 19 months and thankfully it was just a phase...so let's hope it is the same for you! i continued to put her down for her nap...sometimes she cried for 30-40 minutes and i ended up taking her out. other times she cried for 10 minutes and just laid in her crib awake for 2 hours until i took her out. i wouldnt give up on trying to nap her bc as you said she is too young to stop napping.

Thanks. I e tried all differnt times. It's tough with dd1 school/activity schedule. She cried for over 1 hour (on and off in between dozing off standing up). She's exhausted. I'm not ready and she's not ready to give them up. She exhausted, clumsy, and falls asleep if she lying down.

When my boys were protesting at that age....I would put them in bed/crib & lay on floor next to them & take a nap too. Or sneak out when they did fall asleep. Keep them in routine. Do not drive around with them & DO NOT put in your bed.

I'm know this is not what you want to hear, but both of my kids absolutely gave up naps earlier than that- one at 15 months and the other at 18 months. Wouldn't nap no matter what I did, and yet were totally cranky tired too. It was a really difficult adjustment for everyone. So it is a possibility. I hope not for you!

I'm just not sure what to do. Do I keep trying and give up if she doesn't nap with in a half he or so? Give up all together? Dd1 schedule is crazy and we do a ton of afternoon activities so I guess she would just sleep for a few minutes each car ride. This stinks. She cranky on and off now. Some things set her off some she just keeps playing. It's hard to tell how she is.

This might not be what you want to read but your dc may be done with naps. dd gave up napping at 8 months old.

Treat it as a phase. On a whole, toddlers need to nap. Keep attempting to put him down. Leave him in there as long as he's not screaming. This too shall pass! Chat Icon

Does she sleep well at night usually? Maybe she is teething or something else is up right now?

yes she's usually really good. I never have to go in when I her her up she goes back on her own. Last night she was screaming out out out. It took an hour but I got her back to sleep. She was chewing on her fingers a lot yesterday but I don't feel or see anything. I guess it could be molars b/c they are painful and take a long time. I will try motrin tonight but i think it would wear off but 2/3 am anyway. I can't imagine what else. Separation anxiety, scared? all possible but I just don't know how to fix it

Whenever DS teethes he has night terrors. He screams and even when i hold him etc he cannot stop. Most times his eyes are still shut. I know it sounds mean, but ive been told to put a cool washcloth on their face during this freak out to "wake them" a little and then you have a better chance of calming them back to sleep. Its tough. When this happens to DS it is usually for a few days.... then goes away for weeks and then comes back.

Well today was better. Not good but better lol. I rock her to sleep. A bad habit I know but anyway I rocked her and she's so tired she passed out right away. So I was able to lay her down without her freaking out. I rubbed her head until she was sleeping. As sson as I walked out she freKed. I left her for 15 mins. She didn't calm down so I got her. This is different b/c during the week as soona s I stopped rocking she was freaking out and like a fish out of
F water. At least we got over the freaking out part the first freak out lol. I guess I will just keep trying and hope it's a phase
