having someone drive your kids
We are in the process of looking for a part time nanny and the idea (not to mention logistics of car seats) of having someone drive my kids is making me anxious but i can't see a way around it.
What is the youngest age of a person you'd feel comfortable with driving your kids?
I feel like 18 is too young, but is 22? 25? I know its subjective but would love opinions on what people do and are comfortable with.

I think, yes, a little older would make me feel better.
I have two sitters that I use here and there -- both are 23 years old and I feel very comfortable with them. They are so mature and that's why I chose them. Also, they provided full background checks with a complete driving record/report.

I've really never had anyone other then family drive my kids. But my babysitters were 18 when I started using them (they're twins) and if I had a need for it, I would have been ok with them driving them around.

I think it really depends on the person. There are some adults I would never let my DS get in a car with...

27-28, 10 years driving. I can't trust anyone younger than that.

My friend with nannies did full background checks and also waited a while to get comfortable before allowing them to drive the kids.

I think I would feel most comfortable if someone is a a little older or a parent themselves... but if not, I would say at least a college student that seemed responsible.

Next one will not drive at all.

Accident records - with details regarding the accident.
I mean, I saw one where the poor girl was rear ended while sitting at a light, not her fault. But if she ran a red light and hit someone then yeah, that would be a problem.
It also shows an abstract of arrests -- so for things like DWI, that would be huge.
It will also list any citations or traffic infractions -- speeding, reckless driving, etc.
I obtained this through Care.com because that is where I hired my sitters from -- but, you can do an independent one if you are hiring from another source. They are online, you can pay to have one conducted. Just search it.
For me, yes, doing an interview made a huge difference also. I was able to determine two people that I loved, my son met and loved, and I felt super comfortable with them. They are really fantastic, I'm lucky. Then, I ran the check JUST TO BE SAFE. You never, ever know.
They are both in the process of obtaining their master's degrees for early childhood education.
And funny, because they had nothing to hide they were very open about letting me see everything in their check -- because they had great records so they wanted me to see it.

Super helpful. Thanks. I am doing this through care.com and one person has already shared their driving record and it was clean so then my husband and i werent sure what it really would tell but obviously it would tell a lot. Thanks!

This! I basically helped raise my neighbor's daughter because both parents worked incredibly long hours in the city. I drove with her in the car since she was an infant when I was a senior in high school. Parents showed me exactly how to put her in the car seat properly.
