Do you have to drive a minivan if you have 3 kids?
DH says he is done done done. I want to go for a third next year. (I must not want to ever sleep again.)
Of the many reasons DH states for not wanting a third, he say he doesn't want to drive a minivan.
Was wondering if you really do indeed need to buy a minivan to fit 3 car seats in the back.

Yeah - we have a Pilot and can fit 3 across (not that we're having 3 but, we could).

I have 3 kids...
1st vehicle was a 05 nissan pathfinder (one with the 3rd row but we never even used it cause everyone fit)
new car is the 08 dodge durango....everyone fits happily!
no mini vans for us

I don't know why I didn't come up with the 7 passenger SUV when he mentioned the minivan. I am going to mention that 7 passenger SUV tonight.
DH is eyeing a sports car for his next car purchase. 3 kids obviously won't fit in the back of that.

I can get 3 across in a Corolla with the correct seats.
But minivan is more convenient. There's also larger SUVs as others pointed out.

I have a Kia Sorento and LOVE it! Although I do not have 3 (yet) I have put a 3rd carseat there and it's tight but they fit. We also have a 3rd row which folds down in 2-split seats so we'll have plenty of room if we ever have a 3rd child.
No need for minivan

I only just had my second, and I do fine with a Pathfinder. We will not be a Minivan household...we have always said that..lol. We have a third row, and should a third child come along, we will have plenty of room.
A close friend has the Pathfinder, and an Odyssey, and prefers the Pathfinder..she has 4 kids. I am sure she is basing it on looks and being only 33 driving a minivan though

There are other options out there besides a mini-van for those with 3 kids.
I don't care how convenient the automatic door /trunk is. I am just fine opening and closing doors myself

My 3rd will be here soon and I don't plan on a mini van - ever  I have a 7-passenger CUV (Buick Enclave) that will be more than enough.

This. We could fit all three in an SUV, but man, the minivan is so nice! I don't really understand what people have against them.
yeah, when we tried to fit the car seats into my cousin's 3rd row SUV we discovered the 3rd row was basically inaccessible and with it up, there was no trunk space for big strollers and bags.

I have a 7 passenger Hyundai Veracruz and all three car seats fit fine across the second row. We haven't needed the third row except when bringing others with us.

I have the Surburbam and LOVE it.... there is plenty of room and I can fit my triple jogger stroller in the back....something that couldnt be done with a mini-van

I have an enclave and DH's car in a Navigator (3kids). Both have captain seats so kids can walk to back row.

question for those that fit 3 across in the 2nd row..... I have the Pilot. i know it can fit across but the middle looks like its only a lap belt. Do you just secure the seat with that?

It should have latch system after 2002.

I drive a BMW X5 with three kids. I also have a third row which we only use if my oldest wants to sit back there. I don't think I will ever own a minivan unless BMW decides to make one. The X5 works for me.

I am pregnant with our third right now and we just purchased a Jeep Commander with the third row option. it is going to work just fine and we love it!
