Having a Baby
Does anyone really want a baby, but want to be more ready for one. I really want to own a home and have a little bit more money in the bank. I know everyone says there is no right time and you will never be financially ready. But I don't want to have a baby in an apt. Does this make any sense?Plus I will be 31 soon and I am getting depressed about it.

Re: Having a Baby
I understand what you mean by never being ready and want to wait for a house and everything. BUt you will never be fully ready emotionally, finacially or physically. I figured god will bless us with a beautiful child when the time is right. As im sure you can see the whole TTC process isnt easy and we never know what obstacles we might come across during this journey.

Re: Having a Baby
My parents had 3 kids in a one bedroom apartment in the 60s. They survived. THEN they got the 5 bedroom house. I think it is really important not to measure onesself against anyone else and do what is right for you or you can make yourself nuts.
DH and I are both 37 and we live in a very large apartment with our first baby due in August. I think some people have it drilled into their heads that they must own a home for everything to be right. If we waited until we owned a home to have kids, I wouldnt have started to TTC until I was 45 - not an option.

Re: Having a Baby
We live in a 2 bedroom apt & we already have a DD. We won't be buying a house for at least 4 years because I still have around 3 years left of schooling. My DD is already 2.5 & if we wait until I finish school & we buy a house my kids willl be 7+ years apart and I really want them closer in age.
I know things could be "better" (we could have more money in savings, a house, I could be done with school), but we want a baby now. I had DD 6 weeks out of highschool at 18 years old while living in my parents house. I had much less space & money back then, but we managed just fine. I really believe that if we managed that, we can manage now since we're in a better situation. I truely believe there is no "perfect time". After having my daughter I realized there is no amount of preparation that really makes you ready for parenthood.

Re: Having a Baby
I can totally relate to your situation. I waited to start trying until I had job security and bought a house. I was 32 when I started TTC and now a year later I am still not PG. I say, don't wait.

Re: Having a Baby
Our situation is a bit different- we own a house but it is only 1 bedroom right now! So even if you have a house- nyou don't always have the room right away. We bought this house b/c it had room to grow with us- full basement and unfinished 2nd story. We want a baby and won't let our lack of a nursery stop us!

Re: Having a Baby
It's true........there is no perfect, right time. You just have to do it when you're mentally and emotionally ready for the responsibility. Not to be depressing either BUT you also never know if you will have problems. I just assumed that when I wanted a baby I would have a baby and it didn't really go like that. I was very fortunate in that once I started with the RE it didn't take very long but still, you never know and if you put it off too long because you're waiting for the perfect time you may regret it. Lots of luck with everything!!!

Re: Having a Baby
MY DH and I have been asking ourselves the same thing...we really, really want to start having children but we are always saying that maybe we should wait a little bit to get more money in the bank account ... Good luck with your decision....I'm hoping we can decide too
