Have you ever accidentally bounced a check?
I just bounced one and DH is furious! I dont see the big deal. I forgot I wrote a check and immediately put the money in so they could just redeposit the check. I dont get worked up about it, but DH does.
Do you get embarassed or stressed about that kinda stuff?
ETA: its my old checking account that i only keep around cause my life insurance is linked to it. i only put money in it if i write a check, and in this instance i completely forgot.

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
i don't think i have... but i've had my check card get declined at the store because we forgot to transfer money over from the savings account. its a little embarrassing, but i know we have the money somewhere so i don't worry about it. now checks are another thing because of the fees they charge when you bounce them. my parents own a store and my dad pretty much stopped taking checks becasue the bank charges THEM when somebody bounces a check, too! so i would be TOTALLY embarrassed if i did that to a business...

yea see thats why i dont get worked up, cause its not like i didnt have the money...i just forgot to move the money. but he's pizzed cause of the fee. it wasnt to a business, it was to SIL to cover something and she wasnt pizzed either. she was just like "oh em, that checked bounced so just give me the $ later." and its not like i do it everyday!!! he just says im so irresponsible when it comes to money and thats why he pays all the bills.

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
Honestly, I would be FURIOUS if DH bounced a check. I worked very hard to get my credit rating (and his) where it is today, so I would be very upset if he bounced a check. Although he never writes checks without telling me first so it wouldn't happen. But I did get upset with him when he missed a credit card payment a few months back.

so wait, bouncing a check effects your credit rating??? its not like it went to collections or anything, she called me about it and i told her to just tell her bank to redeposit it which they did and all was fine.
i hear ya as far as missing a payment, that i would be pizzed about too! cause that i KNOW effects your credit so i would never do that.

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
I think I bounced a check once..years ago. And didn't think it was a big deal until someone gave us an engagement gift in the form of a check and it bounced. I was ****** because I wound up out a gift and a charge from the bank!
Now, I will never ever bounce a check. I always know how much $$ is in our accounts!

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
I believe bouncing check affects your credit rating. DH did this once and I was furious. The bank charged us a $30 fee for that. For something that could be avoided. If you want to throw $30 away, give it to me instead and I will make sure your bills are paid on time and without checks bouncing. I think it's completely irresponsible.
ETA: I believe creidt card companys use this info to increase your finance charges.

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
I did once and it was a wedding gift We were switching bank accounts & I was wrong with the balance. My friend was super nice about it (I called her once I saw it) & I sent an extra $50 in the second check to cover any fees. But, I was def embarassed and have never done it before or since.

bouncing a check doesnt effect your credit rating - unless you leave the account overdrawn and the bank sends it for collections (which would take a while)

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
Bouncing a check and covering it right away (not letting it go to collections) will not mess up your credit rating.

Absolutely!! I once had a joint account with someone who bounced so many checks the bank froze the account. Granted that's an extreme case, but everything you do affects your credit. One bounced check isn't going to kill you, but over a period of time it doesn't look good.

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
If you are unsufficient funds- meaning that the bank covers the check- but doesn't "bounce" it- but charges you a fee, then it doesn't affect your credit rating b/c the payee of the check is still getting their money- I should know b/c I do this every once in a while...

Sorry but I'm almost 40 yrs old and I never bounced a check in my life. If you keep up on your check book it won't happen. I like my money...I don't want to give $30 to the bank because I didn't balance my book and ended up bouncing a check. JMO

Re: Do you ever bounce checks?
it happens, don't stress it too much. I did it once a while back and I felt awful...Dh was not mad because he knew how upset I was. Chances are, you did it this time and you won't let it happen again...don't worry too much about it!

That's fine for you, but a mistake that does not make someone irresponsible.
