im just a lurker on this board (not PG) but i have been hawaii.
dh and i went for our honeymoon.
we stayed on kauai at the hyatt, on the big island at the hilton waikoloa village, and in maui at the grand wailea.
i would recommend all of them - very awesome.
maui is my favorite place!!

Honolulu - The Royal Hawaiian
Maui - Westin Maui, Resort & Spa
Kauai - The Princeville
we booked it through starwood.com (i am a member there) and we had FREE upgrades for all three hotels. we also went for our honeymoon.
the westin in maui is VERY family oriented...

We went to Honolulu, The Big Island and Maui.
We stayed at The Outrigger Waikiki in Honolulu, The Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island and the Kaanapali Beach HOtel in Maui.

Went to Oahu, it was awesome! We stayed at the hotel that is known as the twin towers of Waikiki. Do not remember the name but it was in great walking distance of everything with the beach right across the street! Cannot wait to take DH to Hawaii!!!

Yes..we took a carnival cruise and it was the best way to see hawaii on a budget.
We flew to vancouver, picked up the cruise ship, had 5 fun days at sea and then 6 days in the islands.
we did Kona, Kauii, Lahaina, Kahalui, Honululu, and one more that im not remembering right now.
check out justcruises.com thats where we booked and got a really good deal on this cruise.
its such an amazing place..expensive..but amazing!
ETA: Hilo I believe was the other stop i couldnt remember..LOL

We went a few years ago...but we did a cruise for a week. It was a Carnival cruise...we went to Kona, Kuwaii, Maui, the big island and I think one more...I think it was the best way to see all the islands, but if I had to go back it would definitely be to either Kuwaii or Maui.

We did the same for our honeymoon - except for the Kaui stay. We opted to stay in the south because of the weather when we went. We stayed in the Sheraton Kaui. Princeville is better IMO.
When I went for work, I stayed at the Kea Lani in Maui. It was GORGEOUS. If given the choice, I'd opt for that again.
The other time I went, I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Oahu. It was so-so.

In Maui we stayed at The Kaanapali Beach Hotel -- I cannot recommend this hotel enough! Its not fancy, but so authentically hawaiian, and it is on the same beach with the Hyatt, Sheraton, etc. - the best location, and affordable. Our room was called a garden view, but it had a balcony and we totally had an oceanview.
We splurged in Kauai and stayed at the Hyatt - which was the fanciest and most amazing hotel I've ever stayed at. The entire Island of kauai is amazing! We took a drive to the North Side, which was less built up than the south side where we stayed, and there were a lot of smaller hotels and bed and breakfasts that might be interesting to check out.
Have fun!!!!!! I'm so jealous!

I totally agree about the Kaanapali Beach Hotel! We stayed there as well and we loved it! We loved that it was an authentic Hawaiian hotel and a family environment!

we are in love with kauai, its our plan to move there one day when we are fed up with new york. we still talk about our honeymoon at least once a week because we loved it so much stay at the hyatt there nicest place and rent a car to drive to the other beaches its amazing
maui on the other hand is over crowded we stayed at the fairmont would not return to maui,
if u r looking for a city tropical scene go there not for us
kaauai is quiet like u r the only people on the island. but with 5 star amenities everywhere.

We did a Bed and Breakfast in Kauai. The B&B was great because you get to talk with locals, and get a lot of "inside" information. Plus, it's a lot cheaper.

yes, dh and i (then bf) took a tour of 4 islands with Cosmos tours and LOVED IT! yes we had to schlep around on a tour bus for the first day of each island with older folks but we didnt care, we got to see so much of each island that we wouldve never seen on our own.
also they handled all inter island flights and accomodations and helped with all activities we wanted to do. overall highly recommend to really see the islands. if you guys are more into doing stuff solo and exploring i wouldnt choose them.
we stayed at:
Oahu: Ohana East
Kauai:Kauai Sands
Big Island: King Kamehameha Hotel
Maui: Maui Coast
all of them were great, the king kamehameha was a little run down but beautiful scenery. also this was in 04 when we went

We went for our HM. We went to Kauai and stayed at the Mariott. I loved it. I would stay there again. It was a phenomenal hotel.
We stayed at the Four Seasons in Maui, you could not pay me to step foot on that property again. I hated that hotel. The staff was awful, the room/suite was horrid. I ended up sleeping on the floor b/c the bed was so bad. The springs were literally coming out of the bed. I repeatedly tried to get someone to come to the room to look and get us a new room or bed and they would not listen. There was more but it just aggravates me so I would rather not get into it here.
ETA: We also stayed at the Hotel Hana Maui and that is by far the best hotel we have ever been to. I can't believe I left it off of the list. We got a suite with a jacusi (sp) in the room it was almost $1000 for one night but OMG so completely worth every penny.

OMG - We stayed at the same places when we were in Hawaii! We also stayed at a timeshare place in Poipu in Kauai which was nice and we spent a night at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider (now the Westin) at the end of our trip.
I loved the Westin Maui and the Princeville - so nice!

They renovated it in 2007 and attached the St Regis name (it was owned by Starwood previously). I loved that hotel.

They renovated it in 2007 and attached the St Regis name (it was owned by Starwood previously). I loved that hotel.
Actually, the St. Regis doesn't reopen until September, just in case the OP was going before then.
We went to Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island on our honeymoon, and this summer are going back to spend 8 nights in just Kauai. It's so dreamy there.
