Have you been a bridesmaid??

What was the gift you got? Did you actually use it? I need help, I cannot seem to find something I think is useful and worthy of my money. Any suggestions thank you!

The only gift I can remember right now is the one my younger sister gave . It was a very nice strand of Pearls.

totally outdated now, but the best gift I ever got was a portable CD player. I used that thing constantly!!

In every bridal party I've ever been in I have gotten jewelry. Usually I never wear it again.

mostly i've gotten jewelry to wear the day of the wedding plus a token gift (i.e. jewelry box)

I have only been a bridesmaid twice. For the first wedding we got alot of stuff for that day so in most cases I haven't used anything. From my sister who just got married she had a beach wedding and we got a beach towel with our names on it from lands end and a beach bag from jcrew which i have used alot in the past month since she got married. For my wedding I gave each bridesmaid the following:
1. earrings for the day of
2. a makeup bag that I ordered which had a picture of me & the bridesmaid on it and has our wedding date and a special message on it and everyone of my bridesmaids use it religiously
3. ralph lauren tourquoise perfume which I had thier names engraved on at bloomingdales (we got the guys the ralph lauren black cologne). They loved this too.
4. chapstick, tissues all that cheesy stuff.

My sister who was my maid of honor I got a small coach bag that she wanted and my matron of honor I got a small armoni statue that was a bridesmaid because she collects them.

I probably spend $100 on each bridesmaid and another $100 on my MOHs.

My favorite BM gift was definitely a Vera Bradley make-up bag! I use it everyday!

I gave my girls necklaces and earings that matched their dresses. And a compact that was engraved with their initials.

You should post this on LIW they probably have more up to date items

I bought the matching shalls for my girls' dresses so they didn't have to spend more $$$.

My sister gave me a salvatore ferragamo wallet for my gift. Too generous of her, but I love it.

She also gave us cashmere wraps from Nordstrom.

I've received jewelry that I basically only wore that day.

for my girls, I got them all purses (each one for their style, like a Ralph Lauren bag for one, a straw tote for another, etc.) I filled it with make up (from the estee lauder warehouse sale...I mixed and matched lots of stuff for their skin tones), books, and other things that I saw along the way.

Monogramed beach bag from Lands End with silver Old Navy flip flops (that matched their dresses) and a sliver necklace and earring set that matched their dress

Every time I was a bridesmaid, I received jewelry and earrings to wear the day of the wedding. Most of the time, I never wore the jewelry again.

I've been a BM plenty of times and gotten many gifts....mostly jewelry I only wear at the wedding and never again. However my BFF got married and got us silver jewelry boxes with our names engraved....I use that all the time.

My SIL gave the best gifts!

Of course we got our jewelry, which was gorgeous. Simple enough where we could wear it everyday. (I, however don't, but thats because I prefer to wear my real stuff.)

Then she ordered white tote bags (i think from lillian vernon) with our names woven in the dress color. It came in soooo handy the day of the wedding (to carry extra stockings. hair stuff, make up) we kept them in the bridal suite. I still use it daily to carry things back and forth to work, or to bring DS things into school.

We also got really nice frames, with a little thank you poem from her.

Everything was so different and useful!

I too have mostly gotten day of jewelry that I never really wore again.
I also got a Coach purse for one and a monogrammed silver mirror compact for another.

(I love some of these ideas that seem *useful*, like the totes, make up bags etc. )

I was MOH but my sister gave her bridesmaids beautiful silver bracelets with their initials engraved on it.

I was just in a bridal party and was given a robe with our initials, it was a great idea and useful.

i've seen brides pay for the day of hair and make up for each girl so that they don't have to worry about laying out money to get beautified! that's a nice idea- you could also just do something small along with that like crystal chandelier antique earrings that are so popular now-- b/c so many girls wear them daily (work, out to dinner, out to a club, etc)... and they can also wear them on the day
