Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
We drove 7 hrs to Maine when dd was 2 months old. She basically slept the entire trip and the night we got there was the 1st night she slept through the night

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
We traveled several times when DS was an infant, in car and on plane. When we drove we always left before the sun came out and DS slept most of the time. No problem with sleeping (other than being in unfamiliar place - not crib).
Suggestions: Bring favorites (blanket, binky, and we even used a dvd player and infant video if DS wasn't sleeping and got fussy) and try to follow their routine as much as possible.

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
We went to PA when DS was 4 months old. He was a champ! We left at night , around his bedtime on the way there, so he slept the whole time. The way home, we had no choice but to leave at noon...his peak hours...he slept time to time, but still didn't complain much. There was only one time he wanted a bottle, and we had a 2 door car so no one could sit back there with him...so we pulled over to feed him LOL.

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
We used to take 3.5 hours trips every 6 weeks to visit my family and DD usually slept through the whole trip until about 6 months and then she started staying up more.

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
Why don't you try breaking up the trip and doing it around nap time. This way, it may not throw the schedule that far off?

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
Over the summer we drove 14 hours, DD was 7 months at the time. She would sleep 2 hours, then would stay up for a while, sleep another 2 hours, cat naps here and there. She slept a lot on the way and I was worried it would mess up her schedule, but she slept soundly that night and her schedule was fine throughout the vacation.

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
We travel to Maine all the time & the first trip was when our oldest DS was 7 months old. He slept the entire trip (we left in the middle of the night) & when we got to my parents house, he stayed asleep until his normal wakeup time. The rest of the day went as planned.
We have since done trips to PA & NJ & even when the boys sleep in the car, it does not throw off their schedules

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
I'm embarking on a 7 hour trip in a few hours with my kids
I've done this trip with both of mine at 3 mos and what we found works best is trying to time when we leave, when we stop to eat around naps/sleep. We also do one leg of the trip at night so they fall asleep around their bedtime and both go back to sleep when we got to our destination and woke up at their regular time even at that age (hope I didnt just jinx myself for tonight )
Good luck!

We drove from NC to NY(took us 12hrs) when my boys were 4 months because my FIL was ill. They did awesome and only got cranky towards the very end. I think you will be fine

Re: has anyone taken a long car trip
We went to Lake George when DD was 6 months - about a 5 hour trip.
She was great in the car, slept on and off, and was very happy when she was awake.
