Has anyone had the allergy shot?
DH said he was considering it. He has been on OTC medicines and they just don't work anymore. He went to an allergist who suggested a series of shots. Did anyone ever do this? Did it work? Was there a downside?

Has anyone had the allergy shot?
My MIL did this for a few years. She has moderate to severe allergies. She found that it was not the best option for her and since then has been able to find medications (zyrtec and nasal spray) to keep her allergies managed. I think the downside is that you are getting numerous shots so it can be time consuming. I don't remember her saying that she had any side effects. I do remember her saying that she has to switch her mediciations around in order for them to work. She used to take claritin and then something else, now zyrtec. However, if they aren't working for your DH, i would say it might be worth a try.

Has anyone had the allergy shot?
My mom was on weekly allergy shots for several years. She never had any problem with them, it was only a pain to make sure she went to the Dr every week.

Re: Has anyone had the allergy shot?
My son gets weekly allergy shots (dust & cats). He's been going about 6 months now and he is almost at maintenance where he only has to go once a month for 2-5 years. He actually chose to get them (he's 7!) because he wants a cat when he is older. It's helped him a lot with his breathing.

Re: Has anyone had the allergy shot?
My husband has been doing them since early spring and he sees a major difference. He did them many years ago but, didn't keep them up after a year and they wore off.

Re: Has anyone had the allergy shot?
I just recently started getting allergy shots. I have quite a lot of environmental allergies, as well as many food allergies. The shots are only for the environmental allergies, not the food allergies. They want me to get my environment allergies under control as I have already once had a very severe allergic reaction where I needed to be treated in the ER. I have just started the process in the last month. It is very time consuming, but both my primary doctor and the allergist highly recommended that I get them.

I have been getting them for years. If you have a good dr's office with convenient hours, its not that much of a problem.
I goto a doctor near my office considering I'm near my doctor during 'office hours' more than I at home. This way I can get a shot before work, during lunch, or after work.
