Has anyone gone on a cruise lately?--UPDATED NEW PROTOCOLS FOR TESTING

Wondered what you used for covid testing and if those government tests you can get for free are accepted if proctored.

Has anyone gone on a cruise lately?

We just came back yesterday. No you can't use those tests. You need to buy the ones with the option for proctoring. I don't think you can just find a proctor for a random test.

Re: Has anyone gone on a cruise lately?

Ahh ok. Thanks so much. Did you use the emeds ones? They seem cheaper than going to a doctor's office as that will cost us $400 to do that.

I haven't gone yet, but these are the ones I have seen people online use:

https://store.emed.com/s/product/detail/01t8c00000M7Qi0AAF

I think they are the same ones you are talking about. They say they are accepted by cruise lines.

Whatever line you are on will probably list it on their website too.

For me, the price is about the same as the co-pay for going to an urgent care, but if you have to pay out of pocket, this is the better option.

Have fun!

You can use any test that is EUA approved, so government ones work. You have to sign up for the live proctoring. Many people in my cruise group have done this option. This is for Royal. You can also do the Naat test at Walgreens, that gives 2 hour results. Walgreens isn't free if you say it's for travel. So say exposed. I mean you could potentially be exposed everyday anyway, so it's not entirely a lie.

Thanks yes I see these are accepted. They would be $140 while my copay would be $400.

I was told I can’t use those free government ones. I ordered anyway in case we can. I think they will get a little suspicious if 4 people come and say they were exposed but I guess we could say we were all near someone at the same time. Lol

I forgot but you are going on a larger ship too, right? I never find them crowded except at certain times. Love the bigger ships for all the areas that you feel like there is no one around while there are 6,000 people there too lol

We were on the Adventure. We do Oasis in a few weeks.

I think we were at full capacity and it didn't feel that crowded. The first day was a ton of lines but that is usually the case but after that it was fine.

The Adventure is not my favorite ship, I only went on because it was a family trip and it wasn't my choice. The buffet was disgusting and it was difficult to find something for breakfast or lunch. The main dining room food also wasn't the best. The apps and desserts were good but the entrees were not good. My biggest issue is that there is nothing to eat after 9 PM except the pizza. Since that was the only thing open, there was always a long line which was annoying. The good news is that the pizza was excellent! I think they changed their recipe or something. We tried room service 3 times and they never showed up.

The good was the staff was excellent. Happy and all did great jobs. The ship was clean and they were constantly cleaning around the ship. The casino was small but fun and always had a good crowd. We didn't go to the shows but the promenade parties were fun as well.

We are looking forward to the Oasis as it is my favorite!!

You can use those, but they just have to be live proctored. People are getting confused about the live proctor part I think in the groups. Onpoint is a good service for 14.99. But, you have to all be vaccinated (and I think you said you are). And for all they know your mother who lives with you has Covid, or whatever! I don't think they really care. But, the Walgreen's NAAT times don't really work for us because there are none later enough in the day on the day we have to go, so we will probably do the proctored test. I do have two Binax now with the app access and will just use one of the ihealth's through a 3rd party site

Telehealth Testing for Cruises Departing from U.S. Ports, Puerto Rico and Canada

For fully vaccinated guests as young as 5, we accept self-administered COVID-19 tests taken under live video supervision.

Telehealth self-tests taken at home must meet these requirements:

Per U.S. CDC guidance, only vaccinated guests may present self-administered telehealth COVID-19 test results at the terminal to satisfy the pre-cruise testing requirement.
The test must have Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. FDA.
The self-test process must happen under live supervision on a video call with a telehealth representative.
The telehealth provider must issue you a result document that includes all the necessary information.
International guests sailing from the U.S. are able to complete their testing using telehealth test kits, providing the kit has been authorized for use by the U.S. FDA. Telehealth test kits obtained internationally that do not meet this requirement will not be accepted. International guests can arrange to have F.D.A.-approved test kits shipped to the U.S. address where they’ll be staying before their cruise and complete their test prior to departing for the cruise terminal using a U.S. PayPal address to complete the purchase.

Yes Oasis! I hope it doesn't feel like that, but people in our sailing group who just recently went on the same cruise said the crowds were crazy and lines for everything, no where to sit for certain activities, etc (and why people go on the same cruise in a short span is strange to me haha). I just know that we have two ships in port at the Coco Cay day, so hopefully that doesn't get crazy crowded!

Ugh, that's frustrating about the food. I honestly have low expectations in terms of the food. But, I'm still trying to lose 5lbs, so if the food is gross, less to eat Chat Icon Chat Icon

I do too lol. I go thinking Applebees and it wasn't even as good as that lol. Oasis will be better because there are many more options. All my daughter was looking for was yogurt in the morning and all they had was peach and they had no milk in the little cartons. They were letting you take from pitchers and you know people are gross so I was like no thanks to that lol.

I thought they were pretty clean actually. They were always cleaning. Some food at the buffet is handed out so everyone isn't grabbing, but half is back to the way it was. There were hand sanitizers everywhere. The milk was just odd. Unfortunately though, 4 out of the 10 of us that traveled just came down with Covid today. I think it was from the casino. That was packed with no masks. I'll wear a mask in the casino next cruise.

So they make you be vaccinated and test before sailing but their sanitary protocols on the boat are still disgusting? Shared milk pitchers? Yeah makes sense.

Sailed 8 times and never heard of this so maybe it was a fluke on that ship.

Yes we used emed. Super easy.

How was your cruise? Oasis, right? Ours is sold out, so dreading crowds.

I have always, always skeeved buffets. I have seen gross things go on at buffets .
I can't believe they are even allowed again with all the Covid paranoia and protocols of today
