Has anyone done a cruise to the Bahamas (Nassau) lately??
We are going on a cruise this weekend and it stops in nassau. What should we do there? I read on cruise critic that some people just walk to junkanoo beach b/c it's free. Has anyone been there?
What about Atlantis? Can we just take a cab there and walk the grounds or no? I k now you have to pay for pool and aquarium access.
ETA: We don't want to spend the $$ on an excursion through the ship, just want to do something on our own.

We stopped there on a RCCL cruise. When you dock you take a small boat to the port where you can walk to the atlantis - the people point you in the right direction. Just so you aren't caught off guard -- you may get bothered by street/beach vendors on the way there as well as on the atlantis beach itself. If you are going with a LO, you may want to pay to use their pools/acquarium

Thanks, we aren't taking DD this time, just us 2 so we can do whatever. I would just stay on the ship but i've never been to Bahamas and want to do something just to see the island a little.

atlantis is worth seeing so definitely go and check it out. you can get to it on your own without paying for an excursion. have fun!!!

We've stopped in Nassau twice. The first time we took the shuttle boat to Atlantis and bought the aquarium passes in our own. Aside from the restaurants and casino, it seemed hard to walk around the grounds. There were security guards all around. We were just there last month with the kids and walked to Junkanoo Beach. There are a couple little stands that sell drinks and food. The water was beautiful, but the view isn't fantastic. When you first get there, the beach is sandy, the further down you walk, the rockier it gets.

i've been there many times, most recently august 2010 - honestly, we did a segway excursion last time that was cook because it was high energy. in the past i've just done shopping in the straw market, local stores, buy some alcohol, etc.
