Has anyone converted to forced air heat?

We have raditors and baseboard heat in out home but I've always liked forced air (with the vents in the floor). Anyway, our heating is a mess (some rooms get super hot, others stay cold, pipes bang, etc.) so I think we need some repairs. Has anyone converted to forced heat? If you don't mind, how much did you pay and what are the pros/cons?

i had forced air heat in our old house and hated it. in your new house we have baseboard and radiators. the pipes are completely different. force air are big ducts. I would think its big money to switch from one to the other, but i'm just guessing.

sounds like you need to bleed your system, it might help

no, but I would kill to have radiators again. I HATE forced air. Once the heat turns off, it is freezing, when it is on it is sweltering. No happy medium... and it creates SO MUCH DUST!

I'm laughing b/c I HATE my forced hot air! Would love baseboards again. :)

I always wonder about changing our current system. I think making such a large change would be lots of money...

I currently have forced air heat in our co-op; I went from baseboard heating to this and I am not a fan of it.

It can be cold in a room, the heat goes on, then it's too hot. The heat shuts off and it gets cold again. It's a vicious cycle.

I cannot wait to look for a home that does not have forced air heat.

My brother is in the process of converting in CT and I think it's a bit pricey. Not sure how much he is spending though.

Lol agree with everyone else. Dontget forced heat. The Amount of dust it creates is unreal and we have dark furniture so you see it everywhere! And like eryone has said it's warm when it's blowing out and then it shuts down and feels cold again. It dries you out just like baseboards though. No help there!

I don't know the cost because we did massive work to our house - but we converted

radiators are a very efficient system - it also the easy system to add radient flooring with - so that may be a better option as an upgrade

retro fitting a house limits where vents can be

vents on the main floor can be in the floor if you have a basement - but if it is a ranch - it is easier and cheaper to go through the attic - also on 2nd story the vents would be on the ceiling

also the return ductwork takes up space - might loose half a closet for each zone

but ductwork allows for central air

the retrofit system we use - is a blower off of hot water pipes in the duct work

nice additions can put humidifier/dehumidifers mattering on needs and air purifiers on the system to help lessen dust

Please,Please, PLEASE don't do it!
I have new construction forced hot air & would kill to have baseboards. It was an upgrade for 6 grand & I kick myself every winter for not taking it! As fast as it heats up a room, thats how fast it cools off.
Don't even get me started on the dust bunnies!
Maybe consider upgrading your current system? I was recently in someones home & she installed the most beautiful radiator covers (the long baseboards) it almost looked like a lace design.. I guess I'm not describing it well but anyhow it looked soooo classy.

We have forced air heat and it drives me crazy. The air gets really dry (hence, DS gets nosebleeds) and there's a lot of dust.

Don't do it. Forced air is very inefficient. We have it and not a fan at all. I wish we had baseboards.
I notice with the forced air the house is always fluctuating temperature.
