As always, I do not know what the other Jews are talking about because I forgot everything. I remember going to Purim carnivals and eating Hamentashen but that is it.

I remember in nursery school - taking two decorated small paper plates face to face, filling them with dried peas, stapling them together and voila - grogger.

Alex's teacher threatened to dress her up as Vashti because, as she said, Alex isn't into the dressing up like a queen or princess thing
Food for thought for next year

Re: Happy Purim
Even though I teach at a Christian school I try to do the story of Esther with my Religion class. When we get back from break we will make groggers, eat Hammentachen, and read the story of Esther. Then there is a great movie that I will show them. It's called One Night With the King.

it's funny... but it's not his BEST work. (Best In Show is my favorite)
but if you are a fan of his movies, it's worth watching...

Re: Happy Purim
Same as every other Jewish holiday - persecution and food.
In all seriousness...the story of Purim
Once upon a time, between the destruction of the First Temple and the building of the Second Temple, the Jews were almost destroyed.
In the city of Shushan, Vashti, the Queen of Persia, refuses to obey the order of the King of Persia, Ahasuerus, to appear before his guests. The King then searches the country for a new queen. From among hundreds of applicants, Esther, cousin of Mordechai the Jew, is chosen.
The King's Prime Minister was an evil man named Haman. Haman, a descendant of the tribe of Amalek, hates the Jews and decides to kill them.
Mordechai pleads with Esther to save the Jewish people by talking to the King. At the risk of her own life, Esther appears before the King without being summoned by him. She reveals her own Jewish identity to the King and reveals Haman's evil plans.
The King is outraged at Haman, and he issues a decree to make Haman the victim of his own infamous plot. Haman and his sons are killed, and the Jews are saved.
That is it in a nutshell.

Re: Happy Purim
I wanted to be Vashti in the 4th grade but my grandmas both had fits. So my crazy grandma's friend made me a beautiful Esther costume.
Chag Purim and Shabbat Shalom!
ets: Do you think Thomas Chen can FedEx some Purim food to moi?
