Hands free/double pumpers-question
What am I doing wrong? I cannot pump both breasts at a time for the life of me. I have to compress/squeeze to get good output. Do you think the cones I use may be too big?
Any tips you can give on how to successfully pump both sides without making a mess?

I used the simple wishes handsfree pumping bra. I pumped 5 times a day and was able to walk around and do lots of other things while pumping. It's the best!Bra on amazon

I used this too at work and did all my work while pumping. Try different sizes of the horn/cone part.

Get the bra! Was a lifesaver! I was on my iPad while I pumped. And if definitely shouldnt be messy. Sounds like the cones may be too big.

Hands free/double pumpers-question
I just got the bra posted above after using the medela hands free bra - the difference is amazing!!!
I've tried different sized cones and have not noticed an appreciable difference in terms of output or comfort.
To get more milk out, this is what I do:. I compress or squeeze them once I see no more milk is coming out. I then turn off the pump for 5 mins and then pump again for 5-10 minutes. I almost always get a second letdown (1-2 more ounces)

Re: Hands free/double pumpers-question
perhaps you could try turning up the suction level or strength? When I was pumping I found that massaging could help eek out a bit more, but it was usually during a second let down or the end of my first let down. I think the flange sizes are more to do with comfort (i think) than impeding production. Also, it sounds insane, but if you wear the hands free bra (which was such a game changer for me), you can still press against the bottle/flanges to put some pressure on your boobs and it is a bit like massaging in terms of getting some more milk out.

Re: Hands free/double pumpers-question
How long does everyone pump for? I just had my daughter a week ago and I am pumping about 20 minutes each time, making about 1.5-2 ounces from each side, so enough for two bottles at this point. Is my milk going to increase? At this point, I cannot nurse, we are having latching difficulties.

Hands free/double pumpers-question
I pump for what seems like forever. 10-15 mins in the am and I get 6-8 ounces (ds is 6 months and STTN). I then pump at work twice and get 6-8 ounces total. If I haven't reached 16 ounces by that point, I nurse ds on one side and pump on the other side when I get home from work and usually get 2-3 ounces.
At work, I pump 10 mins on, 5 mins off, 10 mins on.

Definitely get the simple wishes bra. Absolute lifesaver and much better than the Medela. I pump for 30 mins but sometimes longer. I'm convinced my boobs don't work like others though lol.

Hands free/double pumpers-question
The bra didn't work for me. I just held the pump and managed to juggle my phone at the same time. I did have to change the cones or whatever they're called to a bigger size. When I pumped at work if was about 30-40 minutes. With 2 let downs. I would get up to 10oz combined on the morning session. I would massage and make sure to fully empty each breast then change the pump back to let down mode.
At the age of your baby, i just used a manual pump I maybe pumped 4oz after the first morning feeding. I also got good at nursing pumping at the same time.
I also had latching issues the first 2 weeks. See a lactation consultant or find. LLL meeting. Both were life savers for me!
Good luck! !!!

How old is your baby? Do you not have any issues when you pump only one side?

DC is 4 months. I have no issues when pumping one side. When I try to do both at once I don't get as much output. My thinking is that it is b/c I cannot compress b/c both hands are busy. I will try the bra, sounds like it will help me.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions

I pump 15-20 min per side ususally. Your output will increase with your DD's age. 1.5-2 oz sounds about right for your DD's age. I also had latching issues with 2 of my 3 DC. Working with a LC helped me so much and I would not have made it through without their help. Keep up the good work and congrats on your LO!!

Re: Hands free/double pumpers-question
Yes work with an LC, I only pumped at work (2 -3 times a day) but regardless made the same amount from 3 months-9 months ( I was off for the summer and still bfing but not pumping.) Your milk changes as your DC ages as well,it's amazing but your body knows what to do. Do not stress that is the worst. Lots of water too!
