Halloween isn't even over yet

I have a neighbor who puts out these really nice, handmade wooden Halloween decorations. Last year my friend was bringing her DD to my neighborhood to trick or treat and I said we had to go check out that house. At 5pm ON Halloween - the really nice decorations were gone and they had ALREADY put up Christmas decorations - ON HALLOWEEN!!!

Noticed their decorations again this year. Walked by the same house this past Saturday - and already, (2 days BEFORE Halloween!), their nice Halloween decorations were taken down! "Can't wait" to see if they have their Christmas decorations up today.

I hate that everything from now until Dec 25th is one big push to Christmas

I hate the rush of the Holidays! I hate that tomorrow I will have to search for 1/2 price candy because the stores will have already pulled it to make way for Christmas candy. I went to CVS this weekend and the cashier wished me Happy Halloween/Merry Christmas! He said that he was told on November 1 he has to start saying Happy Holidays!!! CVS had Christmas out along with the Halloween. It makes me not want to shop anywhere. Why can't we have Halloween, then Thanksgiving and after Thanksgiving do Christmas???? I'll even say just give us until the day after Thanksgiving. This whole rushing/ignoring holidays really puts me in a grinch mood.

I agree with the above quotes 100%
I used to love the holidays.
I find myself hating them more and more.
When I examine why it's because in the last 20 years the commercialization of the holidays has gotten so so bad- and so much worse than when we were kids- and it's biggest manifestation is in the rush.

I like to celebrate one holiday at a time. And enjoy it.
And be able to find items and merchandise related it a week or 2 before it- not have it gone because it's been out since August.

But the earlier the retailers cram Christmas down your throat the ealier you will start to spend. Like Pavlov's dogs hearing a bell.
And the more you will spend.
It's all about the Benjamin's

That's right. It's all about money. If we all stopped buying now, I think it would stop.

We went to Roosevelt Mall yesterday and they had all the Christmas stuff up - including the Santa photo area. So I took a pic of DS in front of the tree for my card this year. :)

We went trick or treating tonight and there were Christmas ornaments around the window and I think the little boy was wearing a Christmas sweater.

Well, wtf is the point of the fancy fuking Halloween decorations if they're not actually out on Halloween?? Biggest waste of time. They should egg his house and his fancy fuking rudolph just for being a dlck. I know stores put out Christmas stuff in July, but I've never actually seen people do it.

Re: Halloween isn't even over yet

This is how I feel about it.

The holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Xmas, etc) are all what YOU make of it. It doesn't matter what your neighbor is doing, or what the store puts out, or any of the other 4,000 things people complain about at the holidays. The holidays are about you, your family, and your home AND they will be as awesome or as cr@ppy as YOU make them. It's NOT on anyone else to make you feel festive nor is it anyone else's fault if you're a Grinch.

I am OBSESSED with this time of year and ALL of the holidays, even though Xmas is my favorite. Even though PLENTY of people think I am nuts for putting up a Halloween tree or decorating like crazy for Thanksgiving or even listening to Xmas carols in August I just shrug it off because it makes ME happy. So I don't care what others think or do because it has NO bearing on my holiday happiness and enjoyment.

I don't feel like the holidays are rushed, I get it...........stores want to make money and they put things out early. So what?!? All that does is keep me in the holiday spirit longer. It's up to YOU to slow it all down, savor the days, and celebrate each holiday in the way that makes you happy. I thoroughly enjoyed October and Halloween, now I'm on to the awesomeness of November and Thanksgiving and then I will be in my heaven at Christmastime.

I will decorate for every holiday. I will bake and cook like crazy. I will listen to Xmas carols the entire end of the year. And most importantly, I will enjoy EVERY SINGLE SECOND despite everyone else's complaining and the stores pushing their sales and whatever because what others do doesn't matter to me. Make the most of YOUR holiday season, it's over in a blink. Don't get caught up in what is happening around you, focus on what brings you joy right now, in this minute, and enjoy your holidays to the fullest!!

Just my two cents. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Halloween isn't even over yet

I think it's crazy. I remember last year seeing Christmas trees in a store next to the Back to school stuff in August. I don't get into the Christmas spirit until after Thanksgiving at the earliest... I generally don't do anything Christmasy until Dec. 1. Just like I hate how the radio stations start playing Christmas music 2 months early & then on actual Christmas Day when I want to hear it, they stop playing it at noon!! What?! Chat Icon Rush rush rush & then let's have it be over before it starts. Chat Icon
