Great, just when I'm about to start a new job, I get JURY DUTY!
And I already postponed it once; I can't do it again.......ARGH! I have to call in one week after I start my new job. I guess I'll email them and tell them...OMG..how bad does this make me look????

Now, I'm stressed. I'm stressed finishing up my current job and leaving things in good order, and now I'm going into a new job stressed about freaking jury duty!!!!! UGH!!!!!!

It doesn't make you look bad at all. Your employer has to let you serve and can't take any action against you b/c you were absent for jury duty.

I've been in touch with the HR woman at the new job; she's been kind enough to answer some last-minute questions I have, so I just emailed her kind of lightly, like: Wow, great timing! I'm so sorry but I received a jury summons and need to call on 3/30. I will bring it in so you can see it when I start. Hopefully when I call, I'll find out I'm off the hook.
I start on 3/23....of course. This is great luck!

i wonder if they have sensors?  The same thing happened to me when i started a new job (that was over 2 years ago, and i've never heard one word about it having looked bad  )

DH has never even been summoned! I served 5 years ago. Got picked and all!!! You know what it is...I think when you change your name you're fresh meat, all over again! I think you're up every 4 years. And if I'm wrong, I don't even have my old proof of service.
