Re: Going to Disney on 9/16

I'm sure they will close, since they closed for other hurricanes, and Irma is probably going to be a Cat 4 when it hits WDW, and it's predicted to go straight up the center of Florida.

However, as of right now, I can't find any official closing on their webpage, twitter feed, or Facebook page... I'm still looking, though, and as soon as I find something posted by WDW, I'll post the link to it.

These areas will remain closed through Monday, Sept.11 with the hope of resuming operations on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Check the Walt Disney World Resort website for updates: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com

The phased closures are as follows:

Disney’s Blizzard Beach: Closed as of Friday, 9/8 – Monday, 9/11

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon: Closing Saturday 9/9 at 5 PM – Monday, 9/11

ESPN Wide World of Sports: Closed on Saturday, 9/9 – Monday, 9/11

Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Closing on Saturday, 9/9 at 7 PM – Monday, 9/11

The Saturday, 9/9 Rivers of Light performance is canceled.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Closing on Saturday, 9/9 at 7 PM – Monday, 9/11

The Saturday, 9/9 Fantasmic! and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular performances are canceled.
Epcot: Closing on Saturday, 9/9 at 9 PM – Monday, 9/11

The Saturday, 9/9 Illuminations Reflections of Earth performance is canceled.
Magic Kingdom: Closing on Saturday, 9/9 at 9 PM – Monday, 9/11

The Saturday, 9/9 Happily Ever After fireworks performance is canceled.

Should be a cat 2 when it hits Monday around 2am. Either way this is more a direct hit. Matthew just skirted the east coast.

If you could, I would try and reschedule. The entire state of FL will be hit with a massive hurricane by Sunday.
Disney is closing at 5:00 Saturday. You know it's serious if they close. Who knows when they will re-open and when they do, if it will be fully functional.

Not sure where you saw that, but it's not true. So far the only things Disney has canceled is the night of joy on Saturday and mnsshp on Sunday.

My trip is booked for the 19th. I've been following this very closely. Know cast members. I'm on the disboards. Have very accurate, very up to date information.

It was all over the news saying it's closing.
I didn't just make it up.

I didn't say you made it up. I asked where you saw that. All I said was it's not true. Which it's not.

He tweeted this yesterday and it was all over FB

I wouldn't cancel because of this particular storm. Disney has been through a bunch of hurricanes, and gets things operational ASAP. You are still a week away. I also wouldn't cancel because you would feel guilty having fun. That is silly. Natural disasters happen every single day all over the world, so that doesn't mean you should live your life in solitude because other people can't have fun.

But she's not talking about something that happened in some remote part of the world.

She's talking about feeling awkward being served by people who might be living in a disaster area and might have lost everything.

I get that.

Having said that, we don't yet know if the Orlando area is going to be in that bad of shape so in her case I would still wait and see.

But if it's that bad, I would understand the hesitation.

Yes, you have a point. BUT, these areas heavily depend on tourism, that is a huge bulk of the economy in FL. So if no one goes, then that's a huge hit also. Of course you wouldn't go if the parks were destroyed, but I think Disney and Orlando should be okay.

Disney cancelled 3 of their cruises...which is a HUGE loss. HUGE! Talking millions since they refunded all the guests, AND are providing a discount on a future cruise. But they still have to pay their employees that are on the ships, and all of the employees that were evacuated from their private island onto those ships. Couple that with all the refunds they are giving for the Disney World resort, parties and tickets....it's a ton. So I know they will want to get their parks up and running ASAP.

I would not cancel and look to go. It's a resort. They will put 100% into getting it back quickly. Plus the park may not be as crowded. Even better.

We leave 9/16 too. Spent hours on the phone trying to get through to Disney on Thursday. They said than that if Disney is open and has power we could not just change our reservation. If they are without power and are closed than there would likely be some sort change deal that they would put together. I did not buy travel insurance and I could kick myself now! I'll be out over 5k if we can't go. Of course right now I'm more concerned for my family living on the west coast of Florida. Damn you Irma!

Honestly, if you're leaving on the 16th, which is a week away, I wouldn't change anything. The hurricane will be long gone and Disney will be up and running likely with little to no issues.

I'm really hoping so. Main concern is that the surrounding areas have no power or the airports are not up and running.

Disney has a hurricane policy and the 16th is within 7 days of the hurricane hitting FL. Of course they could mean 7 days before...but the verbage doesn't say that. I would fight it IF you can't go and they challenge you.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/hurricane-policy/

In addition, this is their policy for a package

You can change or cancel your reservation without penalty up until 31 days in advance. Cancellations made 30 days to 2 days prior to arrival have a cancellation fee of $200 per package, but if reservations are cancelled 1 day prior to arrival or later, the full package price is non-refundable

Re: Going to Disney on 9/16

My bigger concern than Disney being up and running or not would be issues with the hotel. Flooding/mold... That's something I'd inquire about, if it were me.

If that happens they would just move guests to another resort on the property.

I'm glad nobody canceled. This is why I always say wait to the last possible second. Jumping the gun serves no purpose.
I saw something on my FB as a suggested post that showed a live feed of Disney as it opened today and it looked perfect and immaculate.
