Going through airport security screening?
We are flying Wednesday. I will be exactly 5 weeks. If you flew while in your first trimester did you tell them you were pregnant and if so did they do something different than normal? I think the old school metal detectors are fine but I'm a bit concerned about the new full body scanners. Thoughts?

I flew at 6 weeks and I refused to do even the metal detectors. Just tell the tsa agent standing by the scanner that you would like to request a pat down

I would tell them. We flew when I was 16w and only went through the metal detector... I would not go through the scanner being pregnant. I had my son with me, so I just walked through with him.

Going through airport security screening?
Per my dr when I flew I asked for a pat down. The scanners are not good for you or baby.

I was hoping... he has other plans and takes after his parents - late for everything!
Going to work tomorrow is going to be the worst.

Avoid the full body scans, metal detectors are supposed to fine. I avoided them anyway. I flew a lot with my first pregnancy so my Dr said do the pat downs.

I flew when I was a little over 3 months and I was taken aside for the pat down..no detectors..I let them know quietly

I flew at 24 weeks and would not go through scanner, they patted me down, they totally understood.

same here- but after I went through and starting crying the TSA lady told me that that it was the equivalent of a sonogram. I don't know if she was trying to make me feel better or that's true. I have to fly 4 more times this pregnancy, so I'll definitely be asking for the pat down from here on in

If you tell the TSA agent your are pregnant they will send you through the metal detector and not the scanner, so definitely tell them.

don't stress cheese- like 99% of cheese sold in the US is made from pastuerized milk!

Believe it or not A LOT of cheese is not pasteurized - I know one local sandwich place by me that uses unpasteurized fresh mozzarella and a greek place by me that the feta is not pasteurized, so you really should ask just to be safe.

DON'T go through the scanners! A friend of mine (not preggo) was at Logan airport last week and she spoke to a TSA agent who told her he won't let his own family go through them. He also said the President of the company that makes the scanners was there and he himself opted for a pat down. Really scary!

They forced me to go through one of those scanners when i was 17 weeks along. the TSA agent said to me "you will be exposed to more radiation on the plane." Thankfully, DS is fine but it still irritated me.

I flew at 13 weeks and I went through the metal detector on the way to my destination, but on the way back they had a full body scanner thing and I opted out and told them it was because I was pregnant. They just had me step to the side and they did a pat down instead.

I flew in the beginning of January - went through the full body scanner - had not a clue. Came home from our trip, missed my period, I was pregnant the whole time and didn't know it  I have no idea if this is really bad but I have a check-up next week so I'll be sure to ask. Oops, I wish I had known - it takes nothing to just request a pat down.
