NPR: Does airport security check driver's license expiration dates? WWYD?
I just realized that my driver's license expired last week and I am flying to Vegas this Friday. My plane tickets are under my married name and my passport (not expired) is under my maiden name. I knew I should have changed my passport to my married name sooner!
It doesn't help that I have a NY driver's license and we live in VA.
Do you think I will be ok if I take my expired driver's license, non-expired passport in my maiden name and my marriage license? I can also take my social security card in my married name?
Am I better off trying to change the name on my tickets?

Personally, I would get a new VA drivers license if you have the time to get to DMV. All you need to get your license in your married name is your marriage certificate. I have my passport and SS in my maiden name and my drivers license in my married name.

Personally, I would get a new VA drivers license if you have the time to get to DMV. All you need to get your license in your married name is your marriage certificate. I have my passport and SS in my maiden name and my drivers license in my married name.
They would not be able to give me a picture driver's license in a day, can they?
I always got a paper license and the picture id in the mail a few weeks later.

OK, I will try to get it today!
I hope it is not complicated because it is expired and out of state.
eta: I just called. I would only get a paper license. The photo id would be mailed in 10-15 days.

Yes, they will check. I would clear it up before you go or you may not be allowed to fly.

Do you have your marriage certificate? That would show both names.

You might be able to use the paper dl, with the passport and your marriage license.

I would bring the paper license to prove your license is valid. Bring your expired license, your passport and your marriage license and you should be fine.
