Giving up bottle early
My DD is almost 7 months and uses a straw cup very well? Does anyone know if there is any reason to not get rid of the bottle? everyone is telling me she's too young, but I thought the sooner the better...
I'll ask her doctor at the next well check of course.

Re: Giving up bottle early
Well, does she drink the formula or breast milk -- depending on what you do -- out of the straw-cup?? Because, I don't think it matters what they are drinking out of as long as they are getting either the formula or BM until about a year old.
My son decided, around 11 months he was kind of "over" the bottle. But my ped wanted him on the formula (I did formula) until at least 12 months. At just shy of 13 months she had me switch to milk in the cup for him instead. But, from when he decided he didn't want the bottle anymore until he was 13 months he drank the formula out of the sippy instead. Just because most peds want them having that until a year or so old.
HTH.

She's drinking all her formula from the cup. So no change in what she's getting, just a different vessel. My first did not drink from a cup as well as quickly.
I just switched her to hypoallergenic formula from EBF and I just hate washing bottles, lol, I want them gone.

Maybe try formula in the straw cup once a day or so? Some babies don't like formula in containers other than the bottle at first. My son is 10 months and drinks well from the straw cup, but he'll get upset if I put formula in there. I'd do one serving of formula a day in the straw cup, and in terms of bottle weaning start to reduce the amount of formula given slowly. 7 months is a little young IMO to totally get rid of the bottle. But each kid is different and it's more important to get the formula than worry about what kind of cup or bottle it's in.

my ped agrees that the sooner the better to get rid of the bottle. with dd, it took us until she as 18months to get rid of it. DS is currently 11months and only takes a bottle for this night feeding. as long as they are drinking, i dont think it matters where it comes from

Ha. I also am counting down until no more bottles. Less than 2 months to go.

Oh so you should be fine.
Hey, it's better for her to give up the bottle anyway.
She's getting the formula so you should be good to go!

Re: Giving up bottle early
My DS has not had a bottle since he turned 8 months. He just turned 12 months this week.
He is EBF and drinks BM out of a straw cup at daycare and sometimes at dinner.

I wish I could get my 13m old to drink her milk out of her sippy but she just throws it. Water is fine out of it.

Re: Giving up bottle early
Get rid of the bottle if she's drinking her formula/breast milk out of a straw/sippy cup.
That's the one thing I kick myself over. I was trying to get rid of my DS bottle at 12 months and was guilted by the grandparents and my husband over it. They all said he's a baby, blah blah blah.
Well now at 2.5 years old he refuses to drink milk out of anything else but a bottle.

Re: Giving up bottle early
Thanks everyone. I just didn't know if it would harm her development or anything like that. I was so surprised when she drank milk from a cup on the first try. She's been incredibly difficult in every other sense, lol, she's gotta give me something, right?
