How early can you start putting cereal in the bottle.
My ds is a month old today and he seems to always be hungry. He spits up a little but not at every feeding. He is eating about 4-5 oz like every 2 or so hours it seems. He does go longer stretches if he is naping. Any suggestions on how to stretch out his feedings?

Unless DC has reflux, cereal shouldn't be put in the bottle at all, it is just used for practice on a spoon.
It is an old wives tale that cereal will make DC sleep longer

you should really ask your doctor. cereal in the bottle is generally only advised for babies w/ reflux, and can cause choking in babies as young as your ds. i would just go with his schedule for now--every 2 hours really isn't that bad for a 1 month old. ds was doing that for the first 6 weeks or so, then went to 2.5 hours, and is now at 3 hours still at 5 months.

ITA! No cereal in bottle unless your doctor has a reason to recommend it.

Never cereal in the bottle...However, if you are using powdered formula, you may want to switch to Ready feed formula. It has a thicker consistency.

Giving a child food too early claims to be connected w/food allergies . I would wait to give food as long as possible.. Celiac Disease is now being linked to food too early.. Just wait it out and be patient.

I agree with all of the above. I would talk to your ped first.

Re: How early can you start putting cereal in the bottle.
you should speak to your dr about it. I had the same problem - and spoke to my ped about his feedings and schedule. ds would do fine all day eating every 3 hrs anywhere from 4 to 6oz at a feeding but once 6pm rolled around 8oz wasnt enough - he would scream and cry... i thought he was becoming colic but he would only calm down once i gave him his next bottle which was seriously only an hr later
i kept a log of ds feedings of when and how much he ate and at 6 weeks my ped did recommend to give ds a little more than a "pinch" in 4 ounces of formula at his hungriest time of the day (which was 6pm) its been 4 days since i started the "pinch" and i have to say ds is a NEW BABY!!! hes happy and satisfied.
i would not add cereal without speaking to ur ped first. also i think a month is still too early

Re: How early can you start putting cereal in the bottle.
my dr. had me start rice in the bottle last week. DS is now 4 weeks. Mainly b/c he refluxes sometimes after feedings, or is in some sort of distress after feedings. He's on alimentum which the ped said is a very thin broken down formula, so the rice may keep him fuller. I use 1teaspoon per bottle which is 3-3.5oz.
I've started alternating..some bottles with rice some without b/c DS is up to 11 lbs when he was 9 almost 2 weeks ago. So im not sure if the rice is chunking him up too fast.
we see the ped this week so im going to be sure to ask her about this.
