Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
What the hell do I wear? Do you need to buy a whole new wardrobe? Or do you still wear maternity? What about tops? All my maternity is winter!!! I just don't think I'll fit into anything right away. What did you btdt moms do?
Also what kind of exercise can you do? I was a runner before. Can I go back to doing that even though I plan on BF? What's too much? What can you do safely?

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I think depending on how you deliver will dictate what you'll be wearing PP. I had a C-section and didn't dare wear jeans (Old Navy maternity skinny jeans) until I was about 5 weeks PP. I have been living in high waisted undies and comfy pants on bottom and loose shirts on top.
I lost about 30lbs by 3 weeks PP and am down about 40lbs at 7w PP. I am wearing shirts (maternity and bigger non-maternity) that I wore when I was 3-6 months pregnant which was in the summer/fall so they are weather appropriate right now.
If you deliver vaginally you may be able to wear more non maternity bc you won't have to worry about irritating your scar.
Do not buy a bra until your boobs deflate! I have been living in sports bras.
HTH!

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
i know nothing but my friend wore her maternity jeans and light pants for a few weeks I will prob be living mostly in sweats and jeans if I can I believe with the working out - it will all depend on how you deliver and what your dr says I pan on just walking non-stop till the Dr tells me I can bump up the intensity

I delivered vaginally and my stomach went down almost immediately.I still had a pooch but nothing that needed maternity clothes. My friends that had c's still had a belly for a few weeks after so it really depends..but you will most likely not need a new wardrobe either way!!

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I gave birth in July and for the first few weeks - I wore yoga pants, etc.
Then if I was going out, I would wear a sundress or skirt, nothing w/ a button on the waistband because I had a c-section.
But I didn't need maternity after, just comfortable clothing.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I think most women within a few weeks of giving birth go back naturally to what they looked like at 20 weeks pregnant. The rest is up to diet and exercise.
I don't plan on doing anything physical except for walks in the park for the first 4-6 weeks. Then I will start exercising... all this depends on my rate of recovery obviously. But I plan on wearing sweats/yoga pants and my maternity pants until I can fit into my regular clothes. I do not plan on buying anything new. I have a few summer/spring tops that are big on me but not maternity and will just wear those.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I've been living in leggings, tank tops, and oversize cardigans...I'm still 25 pounds away from pre-pregnancy weight at 8 1/2 weeks postpartum-but I've lost 28 pounds so far
I started light walking around 3 weeks (after C-section)...It was painful after, I should have slowed it down...
After my 6 week checkup I got the green light to work out again..I'm back in spin class twice a week and do weights 1-2 additional days..I also started Weight Watchers nursing moms program this past friday.
Not gonna lie, its taking me longer to bounce back than I thought it would (I was in great shape)..But its ok, my little man is worth EVERY pound....with consistency I'll be back to pre-pregnancy weight no matter how long it takes My priority is taking care of Mason and to continue breastfeeding him.

I didn't know there was a weight watchers program for breast feeding moms. That's good to know! I just want to lose the weight by 11 months pp. I have a wedding I'm in.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I lost the weight fast, but my stomach didn't flatten immediatly I also had a c-section gave birth the end of May. For some reason June 2009 was a wash out. Rained a lot Pretty much wore light capri kahki's and tanks. Yoga or nice sweats with tanks, etc. That was my wardrobe for most of June and early July. I did wear capri jeans, but not till August just b/c my c-section scar hurt and the pants rubbing it bothered me.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I'm now two weeks PP I lost around 20 lbs and my stomach went down significantly, I still have a little pouch and I tried the Belly Bandit but just couldn't stick to it. I think now I look around 14 weeks pregnant. My fat a$$ still can't squeeze into my pre pregnancy pants and I still aim to lose around 20 lbs with diet and exercise so for now I'm living in tights and a few maternity skinny jeans I bought early on (the ones with a band instead of a full panel), tunics and nursing tanks and cardigans. I think as soon as summer comes around (if this winter ever ends that is...) I'll move on to dresses, skirts and cotton capris.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
Every single stitch of maternity clothing went into storage literally the day I got home from the hospital - I REFUSED to wear it for another second ........
I wore long sleeve T's and Yoga pants for awhile - obviously I wasn't going to a wedding or anything - comfotable but neat -

Yup! When you sign up they ask if you nurse exclusively or if you nurse and supplement with formula..then your points are based on that. I get 42 points a day

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I am almost 4 weeks PP, and I am down about 22 lb of of 45 I gained. 20 came off quick. I've really been watching what I eat, and I've been sick for the last week, so I am a little surprised that more hasnt come off.
My jeans are no where near fitting, and most of my shirts dont fit either, but I dont want to sport a little muffin top either.
I've been wearing leggings, yoga pants, and tanks, just like the other ladies mentioned. The elastic waist maternity jeans I wore up till 5mos, are still a bit snug.
Now that I am feeling better, I am hitting the gym, so I hope to see some improvement.
Also, I am pumping, and my boobs are friggen huge. None of my bathing suit tops fit at all. I've been to the pool, wearing a really hideous bathing suit the last few times, since I cant find anything to accommodate these melons.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
My regular yoga pants and sweatsuit bottoms fit right away. My problem area was always my pooch.
Get out your comfy clothes. Depending on how you deliver will also make a difference in what you can do.
I believe for both vaginal and csections you can start working out at 6 weeks - but with both of my csections there was no way I could work out at 6 weeks.
I have cousins who bounce back within a month. They don't look like they were ever pregnant!

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I guess I'm in the minority here I had a c section and needed to wear my maternity clothes for about 6 weeks while my scar healed I obly bottoms I was back into most normal shirts. I hated the fact I still looks a bit pregnant so I wanted things a little larger. As far as jeans it took me 9 months to fit back into those and even at that it was mostly my fat jeans from pre preggo. My hips totally changed and the low rise thing wasn't working nor was the size 0. I had to go buy new jeans and shorts ( it was summer ) I still don't fit into those low rise size 0 I needed a size 6 for a while and have since gotten down to a size 2 and 4 in most but I don't think ill ever be a 0 again. Just my experience

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I've been living in cotton pants and velour jump suits. I don't fit into my maternity clothes but don't fit into my regular clothes either. I had a c-section so I can't wear much more than cotton anyway.

Ditto to this. I was swollen all over for 2 weeks PP but after that - the weight fell off from me doing nothing and I am average. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight at my 6 week checkup and now 9 mos later am 10 lbs lighter...again all from doing nothing. I don't exercise so if you do - you'll be fine! I am at home now so eat less - being in an office I snacked too much. You'll probably be ok in sweats and yoga pants at first...will be most comfortable too.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I had to laugh (and then cry) while taking my 1st shower in the hospital after birth. I glanced out of the beautiful glass doors to see my horrendous stomach flap in the full wall of mirrors. Who put that there?! Really!? Was that a good idea?
I wore maternity tops for about 2-3 days, but as soon as I physically could, I packed them away. I was so tired of maternity! I wore regular sweats, yoga pants, or dresses and leggings for a couple of weeks after birth before moving back into my regular clothes within a month. I didn't exercise - I did take DS out for daily walks in his stroller though, but nothing too far or strenuous.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I did wear some maternity bottoms...like cotton skirts that were gentle on my C-section. Unfortunately the last thing I wanted to wear was maternity clothes so I ended up going out and buying stuff in larger sizes...pretty dumb b/c I didn't get a lot of use out of it. Just think loose and comfortable.

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
Both times were in june for me, so I wore DHs elastic shorts a nursing tank and a size larger tank or T.
Both were c/s. I got mastitis with my first so getting back to running didn't happen as quick. For the second I was walking at 2 weeks and running at 5 weeks. Both times I ran a 10k 12 and 14 weeks after both kids (not well)

Re: Give me the low down on the postpartum body!!!!
I only wore maternity clothes for a few days. Once I had a chance, I packed them away and I felt MUCH better when I did that.
I lived in sweats, yoga pants, dresses -- all of my old stuff OR stuff I bought in my first trimester.
At 3m PP I went back to work and bought new clothes two sizes larger than what I was.
Now, at 8m PP I packed away all of my larger clothes and I am back to my regular size in everything. I CAN button my jeans but I have muffin top I only have 3lbs to go to my old weight
I do not diet, I do not exercise -- all of the weight loss came with time and BFing.

What do you wear if you don't wear leggings, yoga pants or sweatsuits?
I don't wear any of those things ... I have one pair of yoga pants lurking somewhere, but those are my desperation PJ pants.

what do you normally wear? I suggest going out to Target and picking up some sweats...they are cheap there and comfy!
