Gift Receipts

Is it that hard for people to give a gift receipt? I always give them with my gifts, am I missing something why can't people give them out. I am just wondering why some people don't include them with there gifts, most stores won't return things now without them. I am just looking for other people's views on this.

Re: Gift Recepits

I usually do, but once in a while I forget. Also sometimes stores don't automatically give you a gift receipt, and you have to ask for one. There are times I do forget to ask as well.

Re: Gift Recepits

If I buy a gift over the internet (as I do with all of my Christmas presents) I don't include a receipt. That's because most websites (Amazon) don't have gift receipts unless you ask for gift packaging. Seeing as Amazon charges for the gift packaging I opt out. If it's a baby shower/bridal shower I'll include a receipt. But for Christmas and birthdays, I say they should be happy that they got anything at all.

Re: Gift Recepits

I always will unless I foret to ask or the store doesn't do that.

Most major stores wil take it back without a reicept, there are just a lot of restrictioms. We just took something back to Macy's withoth a gift receipt b/c it didnt' fit & got a credit for the lowest sale price & were able to buy a smiliar item for the about the same price.

It may have been less than what the giver paid for it, but it was what most of those times were going for now, so it was ok, it basically worked out like an exchange, but the items were slightly different, b/c they didn't have the original left.

Re: Gift Receipts

I ALWAYS ask for a gift receipt and give it with the gift. I think it lets the receiver of the gift understand that you are okay for them to bring it back if they don't like it. Plus there are stores that will not take it back without it. (Like Old Navy) I also want the person to get the same amount I paid for the item.

Re: Gift Receipts

I try to include them, but since becoming a mother I have been much more conscious of them. I will say that even if I have asked for them, sometimes stores don't give them. If I am in a rush then I am not going to have the person re-ring the sale. Depending upon my relationship with the person I will include the actual receipt with the gift.

I normally wouldn't disagree .... except that my MIL tends to buy me clothes as gifts, and 99.9999% of the time they don't fit.

If I had a gift receipt I could exchange it for something in my size.

She doesn't include the gift receipts, so lately its all been ending up donated to charity.

Re: Gift Receipts

I am not worried about getting the same amount, I just got some duplicate toys and wrong size clothes and some places won't take it back. And then I have to try and find a store that will take it.

I usually never give them with the actual gift, but I always get one and keep it in case the person wants it. I always tell them so.

Having said that, I should jsut give it to them Chat Icon

I personally never have a problem getting gift receipts.

Re: Gift Receipts

i am notorious for never keeping track of my receipts both for gifts i give and gifts i receive. honestly, i have never once had a problem returning an item to the store without a receipt. where did you go that they wouldn't take a return without a receipt? Chat Icon usually they will just want some type of exchange or store credit, but no one has ever told me flat out no. i'd be pretty pissssed.

as for giving--i try my best to remember to do the gift receipts -- especially with clothes around the holidays. but sometimes i misplace them or if i order online, i just don't get one.

i only give them when they give them to me without asking, or if I remember to ask for one. Whenver I order online I never get the option to get one.

I've returned alot of stuff. Chat Icon I'm picky.

I have never gone to a store that wouldn't at the very least give you store credit.

I'm the same way. The only store that ever gave me a problem was Circuit City (or maybe best buy...)- and that was my own fault since I lost the receipt.

I always give a gift receipt - you never know when something is defective, doesn't fit etc. I think some people don't want to give a receipt b.c of one of several reasons. - They forgot, they don't want the person to return it and know what they paid, it isn't returnable (clearance item) or it is a regift.

or maybe they got a great deal on it and were embarrassed to put a gift receipt in because they got it for way cheap.

oooo that has to stink. Chat Icon luckily when i get clothes as a gift--the tag is pretty self explanatory like "lane bryant" or "old navy" or "NY&Co" or whatever. i would hate not being able to tell where it came from.

man that MIL of yours needs to invest in GCs!

I didn't realize it was such a pain.... what did we do with these unwanted, un-useable, wrong items prior to gift receipts?

I actually go one step further...I pay in cash and give the actual receipt. that's just me though - I don't expect that though. I do appreciate the gift receipt, but I have been taking less and less back lately.

I always give a gift receipt.

I find it suprising that people have no problem returning without a receipt. Many places will not accept returns (or even give store credit) anymore without a receipt. Lots of stores have changed their policies.

That's why I like Bloomingdales & Nordstroms...no receipts necessaryChat Icon

That's what my mom does for Christmas with me. She pays everything cash, and gives me the receipt. It makes it much easier to return clothes, and get what I want anywhere.
