Getting rid of the binky and daycare?
ok: Binky addicts who go to daycare!!! so you can't torture the kids at daycare while you try to get rid of the binky for naps can you!!! He only uses the binky for nap and bedtime.. should I start to get rid of the bedtime one and then do the nap one on a long weekend thing?? If I do it cold turkey for both..thenthe kids at daycare wont nap b/c john will be screaming bloddy murder!!

Ok I have exactly the same issue and Gabby is almost the same age - I would LOVE to know how to handle this. I don't want the teachers to kill me!

Re: Getting rid of the binky and daycare?
i may be the exception but i have no plans of taking jack's away he only uses it to sleep. if he is 3 and uses it to nap so be it.
he is 18 months, i may feel differently when he is 2 - 2.5

Having this issue too!!
DD will be 20 months tomorrow and is currently with a nanny. she will be starting daycare in January and I want to get rid of the binky before then. We've gotten it down to only using for naps & sleeping, but if she finds one, she sticks it right in her mouth. she is SO addicted...
I'm thinking of just going cold turkey over the next week and putting myself through the torture..

Re: Getting rid of the binky and daycare?
DS STOPPED using his paci at daycare. This was months ago and I forgot to send it in. They rocked him to sleep b/c he wouldn't go and then he finally did. They never said anything or forgot so day 2 came and for some reason I guess I thought it was in his cubby. THey pat him to sleep and he was fine.
I brought it in the next week and they said he didn't need it. Wow!
Well, I was 9 mons prego at the time so wasn't about to even attempt getting rid of the paci at night.
Now he only gets it at nights and not for nap time... unless he asks and is in a mood. I keep making excuses why I haven't gotten rid of it yet... first the pregnancy, then a new baby, now I'm back to work and bringing 2 kids to daycare. I need my sleep!

Re: Getting rid of the binky and daycare?
when i worked in daycare parents spoke to us and we got rid of the binky at daycare first. kids will respond better to the caregiver then the parent.

Re: Getting rid of the binky and daycare?
I would say about 6 months ago when my DD was 18 months, they stopped giving her the paci at daycare. Apparently she didn't give them a hard time. I actually am very thankful that they did that. Just 3 nights ago I stopped giving her the paci at night and it was SO easy. Thank goodness for great daycare teachers!

Re: Getting rid of the binky and daycare?
We got rid of the binky in August - a month before he was going back to daycare...After the battle, he was fine and slept without it for naps and nighttime. I thought I won that battle. BUT when he started daycare in Sept., he was upset it wasn't there - because he was so used to having it there. I felt so bad for the teachers and the kids.
I would say just talk to his teachers and go with what they suggest. They'll know best. Sometimes, there's no easy solution.
