Re: Getting ready to look...
I hate being harrassed but I really did not find it was so bad when I was househunting in 2005. We went to several Open Houses. I get harrassed a lot more for things like legal software and advertising in Yellow Book and I really hate it!

Re: Getting ready to look...
I don't know...I always find things I like when I look As long as you are prepared for finding your dream home and maybe having to walk away....
I know it's not common, but the first house DH and I looked at was the one we loved and bought.

Re: Getting ready to look...
Posted by Goldi0218 I really hope that if we were forced to put down a real name and/or number that we would truly NOT be contacted if we indicated so. Long before either one of my parents passed away, YEARS before the house went on the market, agents would hound them asking if they were interested in selling. The same agents would call over and over again despite my mother and father warning them never to call again - that the house would NOT be sold. If that is the case just to sell, I can only imagine how SOME agents would harrass us to buy or use their services. I can guarantee that would be the fastest way to lose me as a customer regardless of the deal. I do not work like that.
I can see your point. But if you are not selling anything, they may call once and that's it. Or offer to show you other houses but you can say no.
We are excellent buyers, and they BARELY call us. Realtors don't want to waste their own time. So don't worry, just say no and all will be ok.

Re: Getting ready to look...
I would look now...in Commack or Smithtown...or surrounding areas!
On a serious note...it's never too early to do your research (i.e. type of house, neighborhood...see above for list of locations). You'll get a lot of that out of the way...this way when you spot your forever home (in Commack or Smithtown) you will not hesitate to put in an offer.

Re: Getting ready to look...
I would start looking now - at least you can rule out certain styles of homes and neighborhoods. Good Luck!!

Re: Getting ready to look...
We started by going to open houses. We told the real estate agents that we were just starting to look and wanted to get check out different areas. They didn't call us.
