gel nails question
I know this was posted before, but I'm confused. I am thinking about getting gel nails tomorrow. What is the difference between a regular gel nails, OPI axxium, and UV nails? which is better? They can be done just on natural nails? and how long do they last? do they make your nails stronger, or is it just that the polish stays on longer without chipping?
I work in a hospital, and use alot of alchohol hand sanitizers, so getting regular manicures are pointless. I figured maybe this would be a good idea, and protect my nails too.

so there is no difference than having acrylics on? because those things trashed my nails too. even if you soak them off, they still damage them?

Yes, they file your nails just like they do for regular gel tips, not as much but still enough to cause damage.

I've had gel nails done twice now and I love them. My nails were dry before, but the gel really makes them look perfect. I don't really care what is happening to my nail underneath b/c as long as I use the gel manicures my nails look great. It is SO nice not to have my nails chip after 2 days. I am going on 2 weeks and my nails still look great. I love the gel manicures!!

I got the gel nails and while they lasted for 3 weeks without chipping my nails are awful now. To get them off I spent 5 minutes soaking them in acetone, then they buffed them, put clear nail polish on and oil on my cuticles. I feel like if you are the kind of person who gets their nails done regularly then they are great because it does cut way down on chipping, however, for a person like me who gets their nails done less than 6 times a year, well I am not sure I will do it again.

wait till after you get a few more....your nails will start breaking from weakness- no gel can fix that
and I kept my nails very short

I did them too, felt they were great, loved the 2wk wear and no chipping until a month later, my nails looked like crap!
It was like I had tips on all over again.
I had to wait a month for them to grow out and come back to normal.
Back to regular mani's for me.

I loved them while I had them on - they were great though I never last three weeks - more like 2 and change.
I had them taken off, and my nails are almost WORSE than when I have had tips. They've been off for about 2-3 weeks and my nails are still horrible.
I don't have great nails, so its not the worst. But if you have nice strong nails, I wouldn't do it.

I did it and loved it, but like the other girls said, I am paying for it now! My nails have been gel free for 4 weeks and they are a disaster! i am so upset!!!
BUT i will do it again if i were to go on vacation b/c i loved the fact that it did not chip!

I agree, I love the fact that when they were on, it didn't chip. BUT, after getting them 3 or 4 times, my nails started to break anyway, even with the gel on. I was told this is because the product dries out your nails and makes them weak over time, and there isn't anything you can do about that.
They have a new product out called Shellac, which I'm thinking of trying, but I suspect it will be the same issue.

Same here. LOVED it while I had them for 3 months with manis lasting over 2 weeks with no chipping. My manicurist told me we needed to give my nails a break and they are so weak its terrible!

Totally agree!!! My nails are finally getting back to normal and I stopped doing the gel at the end of April. My nails were in such bad condition....I will never do it again....regular mani's for me!!!
