gate checking/American
Does anyone know if I can gate check my infant seat and stroller with American?
Their website lists a lot of crazy weight restrictions, and I cant even find anything about gate checking the car seat.

Have you been on American, specifically, recently? They seem to be the only ones that say they will not gate check strollers <20 lbs as of June 2011. My stroller is 23 lbs of course haha. Just wondering how strictly it's enforced.

Yes, they weigh the strollers. They did before I walked to the gate. My stroller was light enough (citimini), but it was a PIA... actually my experience was so bad, I'll never fly american again if I have a choice.

I haven't flown recently, but my FIL works for American and we will be flying American in August for a trip. We typically fly standby though, so our flying experiences aren't typical. I was unaware of the weight restriction for the stroller, but knew you could gate check both. It makes sense because they obviously don't want everyone bringing super heavy strollers, plus carry one, etch because it's too much weight for the plane if they don't have some sort of restriction.
I can ask/double check if you want.

I hate American too. But we are flying free with points so I don't have a choice unfortunately.

I flew American last May (2013) with DS and I gate checked my (heavy) britax b-ready & chaperone car seat. No issues at all from anyone. Only thing was it couldn't fit on the security belt. I forget if DH had to the wheels off to make it fit or if they had to scan it separately. I was too preoccupied with DS at the time to remember.
