 | the use of crib bumpers after reading the article someone posted on here about sleep positioners...this got me thinking about the crib bumpers. I bought a beautoful bedding set and was planning on using them but now Im not so sure. Ive heard mixed things. as long as they are tied to the crib tightly, are they allowed to be used? how many used them or plan on using them??? |

 | Re: the use of crib bumpers I took mine off when I found Joseph's head between the bumper & the crib slat. They were tied very tight, but he managed to wedge his head in anyway. Luckily, his face was facing out toward the slats. They were taken out that day.
For Maddie, I didn't put them in.

 | Re: the use of crib bumpers I will be removing mine today. Steven falls asleep by nuzzling his head inside the bumper which is very cushiony. I've been saying I should do it but now that I saw that video I will definitely do it today!
 I have 2 questions:

Don't they bang their heads on the sides of the crib?

Don't they get their hands and legs stuck between the slats?

Yes, and sometimes. But the worst consequence of bumping their head is yet another bruise -- which they will have plenty of once they get mobile. My daughter hasn't gotten her hand or leg stuck yet. Again, the consequence of that is that they yell and you come help or they figure it out themselves -- not a big deal. Certainly not scary enough for me to risk the alternative.

 | Re: the use of crib bumpers I have them in there now and I'm starting to get concerned that they are a hazard now that he moves around a lot more and is more curious about them. Since I have the kind of crib with a solid back, the bumpers are not really tied up properly. He loves to grab them and stick his arm in between the bumper and the back of the crib like if he was hugging it.

 | Re: the use of crib bumpers I have them in there. Mine are not plush and bulky like some I've seen. I had taken them out but he kept banging his head and crying so I put them back. I have them tucked down into the mattress and so far he seems uninterested in them. I will be watching him though . I do plan to take them out once he is able to stand. |

This is the one we have on our crib. DH wanted something after he found her with her whole leg sticking out the slats, but I wanted something that she couldn't potentially smother in. It was a happy medium for us.

I might get the breathable bumper from OSA that Tumbalina posted.

 | Re: the use of crib bumpers I took them out b/c at day care they are transitioning him to a cot ( ) so I thought I would not make his home crib so 'infant-like'.
But after 2 sleepless nights of him banging his head and getting his limbs caught and twisted outside the slats I am reconsidering.

I think they are a source of comfort for him while sleeping. And like Trish says it totally depends on your comfort level to put/keep them in or not.

I feel similar about them. My son is 14 months and I still have them in there.
