FYI - They are not a requirement and you can request that they arent done. They aren't an indication of impending labor...

You don't have to have internals. They really don't predict anything. I know next time around unless there is concern I will not have any. I had 2 this time and that was enough for me.

 Re: Internals-Thanks for the warning!!
When I came home and called my gf (who just had a baby in Jan) to tell her how much it hurt she said yea I didn't want to scare you so I didn't tell you She actually had to ask her Dr to stop. My Dr. said yesterday that she felt the babies sutures on her skull when she was in there......very cool but ugghhh

 Re: Internals-Thanks for the warning!!
If its optional, what is the benefit of having it done? Can they figure out how dilated you are or something? I'd just as soon pass after reading this post!!

 Re: Internals-Thanks for the warning!!
yea, why have them if they're optional?? I never knew they were optional ... wouldn't the dr tell you if you don't have to have that pain?!!?

 Re: Internals-Thanks for the warning!!
I had them with Emma because I thought they were something that had to be done. I didn't have any with Jeremy because I told them I didn't want to know and that it didn't mean I was going to have him any time soon. I would ask your doc if you are really that uncomfortable having them if you can pass.

 Re: Internals-Thanks for the warning!!
My doctors don't do them until you you hit your due date. They say it won't change their management of you so why bother? You can be 0 cm dilated and have your baby the next day or you could be 2 cm dilated and stay that way for weeks. I had to have one last week only because I was admitted to the hospital. It wasn't that bad, it just felt like a horrible cramp.
