Frustrated and Need to Vent
Tomorrow begins week 3 of my kitchen remodel. Besides the usual difficulties of living without a working stove and sink in the kitchen, we seem to keep having issues.
The latest issue, and the one that has gotten to me the most revolves around one cabinet, and the door to the cabinet.
All of the doors on all the cabinets EXCEPT one, have an arch. Like this:
Unbeknownst to DH & I, we ordered a cabinet that cannot accommodate the door with the arch, as it is too small.
So the door on that cabinet looks like this:
If I had known, I would not have ordered this cabinet, I would have ordered something else - which would have changed the entire layout on one wall.
Now, everyone involved is basically telling me it is going to be to fix this problem. My issue is that I am not responsible for this problem, and I do not think I should have to pay to correct it. The store where we ordered the cabinets admits they made a mistake by: 1) not informing us of this 2) placing the order like this (the computer system was supposed to kick it out and didn't)
The reality is, all the cabinets are on the wall. To change out the cabinet requires pulling down 3 cabinets to replace with 2 cabinets, delaying the installation of the crown molding, and waiting 4+ weeks for the replacement cabinets and the contractor to be available to do the work. BUT, if I leave this mis-matched door on the wall, I will hate my brand new kitchen every single time I walk in.

Re: Frustrated and Need to Vent
I agree you should not have to pay for this oversight.
If it makes you feel any better, I doubt that anyone would even notice, but I know how it feels to be the one noticing it and it driving you nuts.

Re: Frustrated and Need to Vent
Why not install as is with no crown. Order the new cabinets and then re-install when the new ones come is. The cabinet place should not be charging you for their mess up

That is ridiculous. You cannot have two different door styles in one kitchen. I would spend the extra money to fix it properly.

Re: Frustrated and Need to Vent
How about making that one door a glass door instead? That way you get a nice display cabinet and nobody will know it does not fit in with the others.
Everything else can just stay in its place and no delay.

Was going to suggest the same thing, I have all the same doors except the corner cabinet which is a glass door and i love it!
And they should just do an even exchange since it was their fault!

This is a corner cabinet, with a double hinged door (so it's actually two doors, one on each side of the wall). Like this:
They don't make a glass version either.

I think I have read about on these boards that someone took their wood cabinets to a glass cutter and had glass inserts made for their wood cabinets.
It could be an option - maybe take the door somewhere for a price? & try to get the cabinet place that messed up the order to pay for it!!! Good luck!!!

Exactly, that was the point I was trying to make.
