frantic bed time crying in four month old...

he will not go to sleep unless we have him in the baby bjorn walking around with him around the house for about 2 hours 9-11. He starts getting cranky around 8:30 which is our cue for bedtime, take him upstairs do the whole routine lay him down and the crying begins, he cries as he is in the biggest pain, but is ok in the baby bjorn. I don't know what to do, my dh and I are so exhausted, any suggestions would be appreciated, we are at our witts end.

I would try to move up the routine - prior to him getting cranky. If he's already cranky - or getting fussy - he's overtired.

we did try that as well, but he just was not tierd, and again the crying would start. he does feed in the middle of the night, and no problem him going to sleep right after that bottle., maybe i should keep him up more during the day

what if you start rocking him after his last bottle, before he gets too cranky? This is waht I do w/ my 12 wk DS otherwise we have nightly inconsolable crying spells. I give him his bottle, right after he burps I start walking him around, w/ his paci and he usually passes out.

At that age Ds was in bed by 6:30-7pm. You may be missing his real "bedtime." I would suggest readin Happy Child, Healthy Sleep habits. It was a life saver for me. Ds also had to be rocked/walked in the carrier to sleep until I read that book and realized I was missing the cues. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agee 100% with the PP about Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Do NOT try to keep your baby awake during the day. Actually, the book is based on the concept that sleep begets sleep- the better rested your child is, the better he'll sleep.

DD's bedtime is 6pm. Keeping her up does nothing for keeping her sleeping through the night, nor does it make her wake later (LAWD- I wish for that). If we wait to late, she'll fight it.

I agree, may need the earlier bedtime. DS goes down from 6-7. If he goes down a little too late he cries. Do you ever let him cry a little bit? Sometimes I will let DS cry for 5-10 min and see if he will conk out. Most of the time he does so I think it's his overtired cry.
